Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Road Biker!

Hello all! I bought a Centurion Iron Man from a second hand shop about a week ago and I've been gaining miles every day. I used to ride BMX (mostly park and racing) but I was just looking to see if anyone had any tips for road biking and bike maintenance. This is a new world for me, especially with the old school gear levers on the frame. The bikes held up but I'm sure it'll need maintenance soon. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated!

Welcome! Lots of vintage riders/rebuilders here so if you have any specific questions or just want to let others know how it's going with your new riding experience, don't hold back. In the meantime, keep riding and enjoying.

Ride often each week and ride some long trips of 3 to 4 hours regularly. Don't try to ride with professional cyclists. It'll just make you feel puny.

When you wear that bike out or figure out what it doesn't do well for you, then get a bike that better fills your needs.
