Sounds fun. My experience with this law of physices is that when you take a bottle of beer out of the freezer after it's seems like it hasn't been there too long and release the pressure, the temperature drops and the beer freezes up.

If I put a bottle of beer in the freezer, I always set a timer for 20 minutes. Seems to be a safe setting, to avoid sudden "decompression" catastrophes. YMMV

Yes, but it's usually an unexpected event that makes me put beer in the freezer instead of letting it take it's time in the fridge, that usually comes with a rotation system where a bottle might get lost in. 20 minutes sounds about right but it also depends on the weather and the volume of beer at once.

It helps to wrap the bottle with a wet paper towel. You might even be able to drop that to 15 min

Damn. Rube beat me to it. The old damp paper towel trick. Something to do with water conducting the cold better than air...

So we have the interesting but undesirable phenomenon of beer freezing after opening 5 minutes earlier?

Oh, and about the book I was doing the charts for...

"The Secret Horsepower Race"
https://www.calum-douglas.com/curren...rsepower-race/

If you have an interest in WW2 piston engined fighters you might enjoy this. His Twitter feed is also good.

Evaporative cooling, no?

Once, many years ago, I emergency chilled a bottle of champagne by wrapping it in wet paper and holding it out the car window while driving to a date. It was like 50 deg out IIRC.
I say once, because I also emergency chilled my fingers in the process, and while that particular date was well worth it, I never chose to repeat the trick.

Plus, THIS: Mythbusting: Cooling a Drink with a Wet Paper Towel

Turns out, I may have frozen my fingers more by using the wet paper as it actuially slows cooling. Go figure.

I was thinking that… the way it is now, if you mis-judged your run up in any way, you'd be rooted in more ways than one!

Indeed… but are they imprinted on the chook at the left of the photo who also seems to be sitting in that row?
