New Project! 1982 NOS Mercian Vincitore.

Hey guys, I just picked this up on Ebay. Im sure some of you saw it there. These are fairly rare. At least in this condition almost impossible to find unless its new. They still build these in Derby England. Not sure how I'm going to build this thing up. I'll also be posting a video on this as well. Let me know how you'd build it! The frame is from 1982. 120mm spacing, Std Reach bolt on brakes, 27.2 post, 40.5 inch wheelbase. If you have more info on this please advise! Thanks

Sadly it's one I complained about in another thread here because that seller is generally not considered very esteemable... everything is NOS. It's still beautiful, don't get me wrong, but the same bike was shown off on another website by a previous owner and he bought it from a thrift shop for "less than $20..."

Mike D?s 1982 Mercian Vincitore | Old Ten Speed Gallery

It's far less than you'd pay for a new frame but the eBay seller is really a dishonest guy.

Since the OP said he got it from Ebay and suggested some on the Forums had seen it, I went looking for and found it. The price seemed rather much, so I checked out the other stuff the seller had and realized this was the guy from that other thread. I think you said something like "does this guy ever sell anything?"

Seller calls it NOS but in the same breath says it was built up and used as a demo. Um, okay. That means it's used - advertise it as such instead of being economical with the truth.

It's too bad; he has some nice stuff.

Very cool and fun!
I'm a fan of British bikes and ornate lugs, so this is right up my alley. In fact, I was seriously looking at getting a Mercian in the late 80's. Still have the catalog, and scanned it some years ago....

Not sure how I'd build it up, although probably with parts from the 70's or 80's. Maybe some French parts, just for fun and novelty??

Great add for something different in your collection. If it were me, I'd build it up and use it as a light touring bike.
Inn to Inn credit card touring. Some nice Fenders, Nitto Campee Rear Rack, Panniers.....

I had the pleasure of rebuilding one of these about 6-8 years ago. It looked like it had sat unused in an uncleaned house without central air and heat, for 35 years. The owner was very overweight, and in his 70's. I doubt it will ever be ridden again, until it finds a new owner. A damn shame.,,,,BD

The headset is actually a Tange. It also has Mercian stamped on it. My Strada speciale has the same one.

I picked up an 86 Vincitore in british racing green with yellow panels earlier this summer.

I love it.

Slim chrome fenders would set this frame off nicely.

Ooooh look at me I bought some old crusty frame some idiot didn't want back in the day...

You want a cool bike like a brand new Trek road bike, all their names use the same letters and the downtube is 20% bigger to fit more logo. Way better not some old junk you found in someones basement.

PS: like the space as well.

OP mentioned the lugs in their video, IIRC Mercian says the Vincitore lugs are all hand-carved from blanks. Likely the primary reason it's one of their most expensive frames.

Lovely frame!

Lovely frame in a lovely colour, good luck with the build, they do get addictive though, there’s another blue one and a green one in my custody now as well as these (the celeste one has moved on to a new home)
