You could contact them about an upgrade! I think they cut deals for that... atleast that's what CDR said lol.

More sweet spot, 4x20 @ 90%, was solidly just under 160bpm, next couple of days are going to be tight with training with some other life stuff, hopefully will get up early enough to get them done

3 sets of 14x30s on/off VO2max intervals this morning. Thought I was going to die during the first set and then weirdly after that it wasn't too bad. Shrug.

Ramp test last night. ~328W FTP again, for the third month. I think I may be able to kick the plateau by March when the warmer temps allow full effort intervals more easily. The cold weather clothing makes it more challenging to hit it hard w/out overheating then freezing. Still happy with the strong base and steady FTP. I've been quite a bit higher but like 10 years ago, and I'm rolling up on 50 this week so not expecting to go beating my young self any more...

He won the local CX junior series as a 15-yo, and runs the 200 and 400 in track so he knows what it's like to dig deep. The thing is, the kid loves to race, but hates to train.
That's awesome that he's out there killing it. WR jr has been doing this since April so his FTP is going up like 10-15W/month still. Will see where he ends up. He does benefit from loving training. He will go do hill repeats, sprints, WRI, etc. and has even gone out on solo 75 mile rides in the countryside. He has his first MTB races (NICA) next month, so at least he'll get some competition in there - fitness can't hurt, but there are some insanely talented bike handlers in the league.

It's pretty awesome that you've got the same deal going on though. I never thought any of my kids would swing a leg over a road bike. Now he's showing me cat3memes at dinner

Sweet spot rocks.

My 9 y/o started riding (like we got him to ride without training wheels) in March and in April I got him a used road bike, which he begged me for (and of course the novelty wore off and he didn't ride all summer lol). But we made it a point to make him exercise given lack of school based PE/playing so we started riding everyday and by the end of the outdoor season here we were averaging 13mph in our neighborhood loop (which for me is 90ish watts). I have him on zwift on virtual power on a fluid trainer so it's hard to tell what is reality, but he's been averaging 100w. He's probably not going to get into racing, but it would be a fun benchmark for our outdoor rides to be 15mph at some point this year.

Heck yes, although the good times are coming to an end in a couple of weeks, going to be hurting myself with the sustained power build plan on trainerroad.

More TT work this morning, really starting to enjoy these rides and the sensation of speed. 30' barely over z2 and then 15' at ~87%. It's nice out there on a cool and (relatively) windless morning to get in the groove.

Fiesta TTT Tuesday. What a great day for a time trial - mid 60s, water was like glass and 8 person rowing teams on the water. 20K into Strava. Another chainless day.

Taking a sweetspot week break from my TT bike intensity workouts plan.

I swear, something has happened from 2019. In 2020 I did a hair more miles, more hours, and a crap ton more elevation. Overall more KJ's. By all metrics, I'm a hair faster.

But........in 2019 I could pretty much eat and drink "at will". Now........I feel like I can't eat a damned thing without putting on a pound or two. I'm in good shape overall, but it's like..........seriously, WTF.

I know.....calories in, calories out. Thing is though, I really feel I ate the same or more in 2019! Eff this crap yo.

Perfect. Great progress for him! I remember in April WR Jr was struggling to hold 15mph. It moves fast. Enjoy!

geez louise I just finished a garbage 3x20. I had to drive down to my parents' to attend a funeral, so I just had some coffee and then a light lunch with my parents and got on the bike as soon as I got home, so my HR was sky high at 90%, hitting 170 today, when yesterday it only got to 160. The workout itself was supposed to be 90-94-92%, I had to back off on the 94 back to 90 and did the last at 88 and still needed a couple of pauses. time to eat and get back at it for tomorrow's 3x30 @ 90

60 min of z2 on the trainer this morning. I've decided to stick with TR but for boring workouts like this morning (Pettit), I just started creating custom workouts in Zwift to match.

Took the day off today, and rode 99 mi with 4,300' elevation in a bit under 6 hrs. 3 hrs of zwifting on tap for tomorrow morning before work. I think I'll join this 90 minute "C" based group ride and then hit up Alpe de Zwift for some climbing.

another crummy day, doesn't help that I tried doing 3x30 @ 90% less than 24hrs after yesterday's disaster. I did 2x30. I was already planning on doing this, but I'll be replacing my weekend workouts with longer endurance stuff and then enjoy an easy endurance week next week. It's crazy how quickly the wheels can come off after a day of being screwy with nutrition/recovery. CTL is 89 so I'm good cutting myself some slack, esp after have a solid block

Scheduled to do 3x12' at 96-100% but that just wasn't happening. Dialed it down and completed them around 90-92%. Ugh.

Fiesta 3 laps of 30” on 1’ off workout and then 2 laps of tempo. 72 degrees, sunny, light winds. I continue to rip the pedals off the bike.

Actually kind of enjoying the big climbs on Zwift (Alpe, Ventoux, Epic, etc) for doing endurance work. It's only this year, after having my smart trainer for a few years, that I'm getting more into it. I'd assumed my indoor power was lower, not I'm not so sure they're really any different.

I'm stupid. I forgot USAC did 20% off Trainingpeaks. So I paid up.

Very interesting to finally see my data. A bit eye opening in areas. I was super worried that with my bad wreck in the race and recovery then weeks of stagnation after poison ivy and having to take prednisone that 2020 was going to have been a waste. And 2021 hasn't "felt" super productive, yet.

To my surprise, 2020 I gained 400KJ per week of work over 2019. My hours/week was not appreciably more in 2020. Not that much as a % change. Also, a good surprise, most of that gain happened in the 2nd half of 2020. And I've been maintaining the KJ/week through some bad weather recently.

That's uhm, a 15% bump mostly driven over the last 6 months and even then the last 3 months.

I feel, as a "floor" indicator of my bike fitness......that the KJ/week I do is a good combo of "hours" and "power" that I put out.

Now, once it gets closer to race time..........it'll be time to optimize on that engine. I can tell it's there, I'll just need the specificity work to rev the engine. I think the engine is there right now, just not being used optimally for any specific thing..........other than TT.

I'm going to checkout the library also now.

Might be best investment in my TT bike speed I can make for 2021!

Yesterday was a strength and mobility workout and San Diego set a high temperature record for the day of 88 degrees.

In SD, several of the tennis / golf facilities are offering outdoor gyms. My current fitness club has partnered with one of these outdoor facilities so I can workout outdoors using their facility. I really like the outdoor gym experience although the temperature was a little high. It will be interesting to see if there is a shift to offer more outdoor fitness opportunities even when the pandemic is over.

The facility has converted a tennis court to a canopied gym floor with weights, benches, racks and other fitness stuff. I was walking by one of the courts where a tennis player was working out with a ball machine. I was thinking, hmmm, that brings back memories and it would be nice to dust off my tennis game and flip from cycling to golf and tennis and have cycling as a by the by aerobic workout. And then on the way back to the locker room, I walked past the lap pool and thought, hmmm, maybe I should hire John Howard (he lives in SD) as a combo swim and cycling coach. Okay enough of that.

decided to skip the last big sweet spot workout and did a 3hr z2 ride instead (same tss, although obviously not created equal). It does take a special kind of crazy to do more than 2hrs on the trainer lol I'll be trying this again tomorrow. I'm continuing to experiment with doing my z2 rides 2% above the target (so basing it off 305w ftp rather than 300w), it's not a huge difference but 5w at the high end of z2 is enough to make it a little more interesting and so far my pwr/HR are aligning as if 305 were my ftp. Anyhow, just being a little looser with things on the easier rides, build phase will be a rude awakening, since I haven't done anything over 94% (and generally am around 90-92%), so over-unders and suprathreshold stuff is really going to kick my butt

Probably. We left Southgate Camp Pendleton around 10:40 and it takes an hour to get to the San Clemente.

Do you do Zwift or just TR? I do a 3 hr ride on Zwift almost every week and will do up to 4 voluntarily. More than that takes some motivation.
