Wait times on the phone

Holy Cow! I'm trying to ask a real person a question at Southern California Edison (over the phone). They announced that the wait times would be between 3 hours and 15 mines a 5 hours and 20 minutes. They said they could call me back if I want to leave a number but it would still take that long for a return call.

That's insane.

It is insane -

I've finally learned how to use the speaker phone option on my phone and have found it to me immensely helpful. Any time I'm going to run into this, I just turn up the volume and turn on speaker phone, stick my phone in my pocket and go about whatever I was going to do. I once waited 5 1/2 hrs on speaker phone to get through to a real person. Luckily, it's not a problem for me having my phone monopolized while waiting for so long a time.

3+ hours, that is insane, I sure hope its because of somethings that's related to the pandemic. I called them a few years ago in prep for an electrical circuit breaker panel upgrade on my house (100 > 200 amps) and it only took about 15 minutes to get a live person. And the inspector came out two days later to do the inspection/approval.

A couple of months ago I tried to reach Verizon about my cable service. I was eventually prompted to pick a time for a callback. Picked a time. When that time arrived, I got a call. It was a computer voice telling me no one was available to speak with me.

Over the last couple of weeks I was forced to leave messages about a hospital bill. I was trying to pay it using my HSA. I was told someone would call me back. No one ever did. Finally reached someone yesterday morning.

Sorry. Itís been a year. I think itís intentional. Great way to save a few bucks.

Well, I still have to call another number. Although I did get through I was told the department that would handle my request could be only reached at another number... here we go again.

Maybe SoCalEd is stretched thin because of the wildfires?

Especially since Verizon still manages to send me a bill every month. Funny how that works.

Yes, my experience too that Verizon FIOS has terrible phone support. As well they go home at 7 in the evening, so if your TV goes down just when you start watching after dinner, you are SOL.

My current "worst" is the NY State Dept. of labor. I am receiving forms from them to fill out to receive UI benefits. Trouble is I never applied as I'm steadily employed, so it feels like a fraud case. I've completed 2 of the on-line "report fraud" forms and have never gotten a response. My wife said I needed to call. You listen to recorded messages for 2 minutes explaining the new federal funds, then get options. At some point you have to key in your SS number followed by your 4 digit pin, which I don't have as I've never enrolled. It hangs up unless you key in 4 digits so I do bogus numbers. It doesn't recognize that pin off course, so makes you do it all again, and then a third,. then states it will now connect to a real person, then announces they are too busy helping others and hangs up. 5 minutes later.

It was an attempt at a joke. Your reply made it funny.
