I concur with DQS blitzing the leaderboard, just not sure if it will be Cavagna. He sure is in great form. The skeptic in me doesn't believe in unicorns, but I wouldn't put it out of the question that Remco ends up in pink. Can he wear it end to end?

given his lack of inclusivity re: certain other riders in the peloton, cannot/will not support. life's fabulous t-birds tuff enuff w/o inappropriate additional/supplemental bleep.

Yes I remember now, but I still had to look it up. Surprised to have forgotten K-B-K bike throwing also more recently. Thank you for the reminder!

Impressed to see DQ and JV this should be a good GC battle. Ganna looks back to form for Ineos! Ganna stormed it!!

Strong start for Remco.

Bernal and Yates, not so much.

Two more power citations from our resident historian there re alt+Moscon and #87.

I do believe Ewan is looming large in stage 2. So to speak.

I relegated my prediction of that to the fantasy variant of this thread since they generally have about as much chance of being correct as I do of seeing a unicorn juggling golden eggs and chainsaws.

What a frenetic last 2km run in for stage two. Merlier! No Ewan in sight Gaviria put into the barriers apparently. Not much for lead outs it seemed. Earlier Remco and Ganna both went for the intermediate sprint, hmm...

Was this a result of the technical run in or the start of a trend for Tim? I couldn't have guessed a winner but I am pleasantly surprised to see Vivianni there.

A lot of rememberances for Wouter Weylandt, with Tim throwing a W at the finish. I'll have to look this up.

Remco would be the one I think will win this. I was not sure how recovered he was. I think he is. There might be some team politics to deal with, so I'm not so sure, but he seems to be back. We will see how the corners go.

Sick win by Taco. Apparently looking for a team five months ago. Now a GT stage winner - on a sprint stage! Neat video of the motor bike behind him recording him screaming after the line and shows how close it was! Crazy!

Now that Joao is leaving DQ this could get interesting. I still think Remco will save up for the Tour though - or maybe he will try for the Olympics. What's a better Trophy, Tour GC win or Gold medal?

Remco's going for the Olympics. He's on Belgium's shortlist and could have qualified for a COVID-19 vaccine, but held off for fear of side-effects affecting his Giro.

Well João vs Remco question is answered. Bernal sprinting to the line infront of the GC bunch. Yates trailing a bit.

Frigging sweet win by Joe Dombrowski!

awesome to see the win by joe d. and even sweeter to see de marchi in the maglia rosa. well deserved.

bad days for joao and george. better today than in the last week tho. still time to chip away (if this was just an isolated bad day and not form)
at the deficit and climb back into contention (unless both get pressed into immediate super-domestique duties before the first week ends).
there are plenty of names on the current top of the gc that will be falling away soon enough.

Bennett will be interesting since they had Tobias drop back to pace him. More worrisome is JV's DS acknowledging George doesn't do well in damp cold conditions ... Um, welcome to the high mountains in May?

I didn't understand why they went with him for their GC guy in the Giro in the first place.

Almeida's 4 minutes down on Remco and Bernal. I don't think chipping away will be enough. He needs a miracle.
Or to make the most out of domestique duties...

Horner was laying on the sad violin music talking about it. I wonder if it was a combo "salary bonus" + "watch over the youngsters - easier if you're a 'protected' rider"?

Glad to know there's someone obnoxiously picky about gearing in the peloton, just like me

"In [the] Giro, just Caleb Ewan will use 11-speed," explained the team's press officer, Philippe Maartens, before explaining why. "He likes to keep his 27 sprocket, which is not present in the 12-speed groupset".
