Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oooh, they're painting the Java Jive. One of my favorite bars. Second smallest bar I've been in, I think.

Here's some C&V Dunkin' Donuts, next to a Circle K in 1972 according to the poster. Looks like a slightly newer red Toyota on the road there though, hmmm...

Why Oak Ridge?

There used to be an Atomic Speedway along I-40 (not in Oak Ridge), but it is no more.

2 water bottles is not enough for me to ride 3.5hrs in 85°F-ish temps.
I probably won't die if I only have 2 water bottles on a 3.5hr ride in 85°F-ish temps.Fabric Scoop Shallow seems to be a really comfy saddle.

Speaking of confusing directional signage, US 321 in Tennessee is a gem.

It’s an implanted device, a spinal cord stimulator. I would only suggest if you have daily severe back pain and/or pain radiating from your back.

In motocross, which I was good at, you can use any line to pass someone, but here in road racing there was that ONE good line. I wouldn't want to get on a road race track with other people, I never even raced MX but I did play ride on the track a few times. Mostly I rode desert and the worst crash I ever had was when a guy tried to pass me on a trail that was handle bar wide, maybe a little wider. I saw the Kawasaki green in my peripheral vision and then I was bouncing down the trail @40mph. The idiot tried to blame me. Said I "took his line away". I never rode with him again
