stand on scale with and without frame, and to be honest my scale does not seem to be the best so I'm pretty sure it's a give or take, it seems more give than take though And again paint does add a couple hundred grams, no?

The hard part is finding the right business within that giant haystack. But I agree there are likely to be some amazing builders out there among all the incompetents and various degrees of mediocrity in between.

Actually, it's not so hard. Mainly go with builders which have a good online reputation and been around for a while. I recently purchased a custom-painted Carbonda CFR 696 and it turned out to be excellent. Quality, alignment, paint as well as delivery were as promised plus the price was great.
I know not the smartest method but with the ridiculous scarcity of bike parts at the moment that was my best bet

Did you just clear coat it? I like how you left the brazing show. Makes it stand out that it's steel. However I'd be wishing that steels natural color was bright tangerine orange, bright blue or other bright color.
I wonder what kind of anodizing or some other chemical/electrical process would be possible to change the color of the frame and still let one see that it's a bare frame with no paint?
Maybe on your next build you can get that figured out for us.

I think you could anodize steel with virtually any metal, I have no idea though how that would hold against weather and elements,
I think I'm waiting till this frame starts to show some age, then I'll do one of those fancy pants paint jobs
