Europe & Middle East Tour

Has anyone (recently 2015 & afterwards) cycled from Turkey to Dubai? If so, is it safe and how did you handle crossing borders?

Syria, Iraq, Iran enroute .... no thanks. 3000+km

The googlely map route shows a lot of flat land after exiting Turkey.

If you are a citizen of a country that has good relations with the Iranian regime, maybe you could cross Iran to the coast of the Gulf and take a boat.

Guess it depends on what you're riding. Armored Hum-V seems to be the vehicle of choice for all grades in the middle east.

Yes, I rode specifically from Turkey to Dubai last year. The only time it got hairy was when I was on Highway 1 (highway of death) outside of As Amawah and came across some bad guys but I was prepared for that.

On safety—and, considering the two countries in between Turkey and KSA, which a route could avoid one, but not both—have you been watching the news for the last few years? As for crossing the borders, you'll need to apply for tourist visas in advance, I'm pretty sure all of the countries you'd need to enter do not issue visas at ports of entry.
