They have such a strong cohesive team. He could put up some wins for them.

But I'll bet the pay cut is going to be hefty no matter what. He was the highest paid star for a reason, but those reasons are gone. It's not just that he doesn't win as much. It's also that fan enthusiasm has gone elsewhere.

^likely. the viviani factor....viviani hasn't done squat since leaving dqs. ditto trentin. sagan is always in the mix but missing that extra push. could dqs restore it?

and say what you want about valverde but at his age, to even be in occasional contention (doped to the gills or not) speaks volumes. historically underrated.

With Cav on the same team that might be one too many cocks in the henhouse.

Perhaps Lefevre will do another "big name who brings a big chunk of his paycheck with him" maneuver. All sorts of machinations going on there. Plus the idea that DQS will become a GC team behind Evanpoel. Talk about a sea change. This will be remarkable to watch.

That thought (or some variation thereof) crossed my mind too. But, I do believe this may be Cav's last year, unless he has a longer term contract I'm not aware of.

Agree with one4smoke . Don't expect Cav to be riding with DQT next year.

And maybe I'm reading too much into today's race, but I don't think it's a good idea to be putting either Cav or Sagan in a race with somebody like Bennett, at least when Bennett is as hot as he is this spring. When a guy is that "on", you want everybody in that train working for him, and I just can't see Cav or Sagan playing the leadout role.

If they sign Sagan, then it should be to sent him to the Giro while Bennett does the TdF, or similar.

Yeah, Bennett is the one to consider in this other than Cavendish. There were "situations" with him and Sagan when he was at Bora.

I had to laugh at Vaughters chiming in on Twitter about Sagan and Bora. Would be sweet but never going to happen, everything depends on what Specialized want.

Remco just signed a five year extension! I wonder how that all worked out, and who got (will get...) the better deal.

What can Sagan do that Alaphillipe or Bennett cannot?

Sagan has not show for some time that he could keep up with the magnificent trio (MvdP, WvA, JA) and in sprint finishes Bennet is probably the best right now.

Oh no? 2021 Milan San Remo...

1 Jasper Stuyven (Bel) Trek-Segafredo 6:38:06
2 Caleb Ewan (Aus) Lotto Soudal
3 Wout Van Aert (Bel) Jumbo-Visma
4 Peter Sagan (Svk) Bora-Hansgrohe
5 Mathieu van der Poel (Ned) Alpecin-Fenix

There's so much experience with Sagan, and Cavendish that you'd think it would be foolish to discard them once they are just shy of podiums. The young guns have the strength but not quite the smarts (thinking of MvdP).

Keep going, that's like saying a tennis match was close if it was 6-1 6-1 6-1 and you then pick one set that the loser won.

Edit: My point is, do you want to pay that salary for someone who has not been consistent for two years and who doesn't really add much to your roster.

You said that Sagan has shown for some time he can't keep up with the likes of WvA and MvdP. I was simply pointing out it wasn't that long ago that he kept up just fine, being the meat in the wonder boys sandwich.

Never count the likes of Sagan out. People did just that with Cavendish, and now he's making them eat their words.

Don't overlook the value to sponsors from Sagan being a media magnet. That alone might not underwrite a 5 or 6 million euro salary, but he won't be laboring in obscurity for minimum wage.

I don't disagree with you. You are right. He did show in one race that he could keep up.

Would you sign him because of that?

Cavendish's bonuses are being paid by Specialized/Mike Sinyard. Would not be surprised if they don't try to swing a deal to keep Sagan riding Specialized when the bridges between him and Bora are burning, even though I agree that he doesn't seem like the best fit for DQS.

I wonder how long DQS can even keep Alaphillipe. He may already have priced himself off the team. And that's just one pay raise amongst others, like Asgreen who was said to be entering contract negotiations just after Flanders.

I wasn't referring to just "attention." Peter Sagan is one of the greatest riders to ever straddle a bicycle.

NEVER count out his ability.

with alaphilippe getting resigned to a 3-year deal, it seems less likely for sagan going to dqs unless it is at a seriously reduced price.
guessing there is a team or two in the peloton willing to pony up the applicable cashish for more/better sponsor exposure by having
peter on the team.

True. But I don't believe Sagan is past his expiration date yet.
