Multi day ride in Cali?

My wife and I are thinking about registering for one of the big rides here in Colorado this year. However, we both love California and if there is a ride similar to Ride the Rockies or even RAGBRAI in Iowa then we would consider it.

Is there anything?

Dang. I can't think of many multi-day rides with similar numbers of participants. Perhaps this?

https://www.aidslifecycle.org/

I've wanted to do that myself, but I'm a lousy fundraiser

I've seen a number of SF to LA ride like the AIDS ride. Don't think any are real big.
There are 2 day MS rides.

Amgen Tour of California, maybe?

Why do you need the excuse of a formal, sanctioned ride to bring your bikes here for several days of riding fun?
You can bring your bikes here and do the Solvang, Ride Around the Bear and Tour de Poway routes for free and do the B&B thing in between.
You can use Googlemaps' satellite- & street views to customize the perfect routes, and inquire in here with the locals.
If you're coming to San Diego, I've got some gems like this already saved in my Bookmarks.

Safe and happy riding, whatever you do.

I agree, this is what I would do. But, although my wife is a strong cyclist she gets nervous on busy roads. Ride the Rockies chooses routes with wide shoulders, there are areas with police ******* etc. It's kind of weenie-ish. Also, having a truck cart our camping gear around is ideal.

Thanks for the routes though. I am coming out to S. California in late July and I will keep this thread in mind. Last year I rented a bike and did a Palomar loop. It was awesome.

Inland San Diego County has some great riding, use to train quite a bit down there in the 80-90's..

We use to race around the Jamul area, is that still pretty open and undeveloped?

I've always wanted to do that one, but it always falls near the end of the semester, when I am expected to be putting on concerts and finishing grades. You know I have connections that would make sure you made the minium, so let me know.

No kidding? I've heard that fundraising isn't as all fired difficult as you think, and I have some clients that would probably contribute as well.

Now, all I have to do is see whether they still have that tent-sharing policy for single riders. Sharing a tent with a random person I've never met? Uhhh ...

Well, if you can wait until I retire in about 30 more years, I'll share a tent with you. Of course, they may have found a cure for AIDS by then.

What makes you think I want to share a tent with you?

Seriously, it would be fab if future AIDS rides were as irrelevant as a ride to fight hunger in Beverly Hills.

The second statement? That there's no further needs for AIDS rides, because a cure has been found. I'm assuming, of course, that hunger is not epidemic in Beverly Hills.

You would be correct, but that's just because the city doesn't allow homeless shelters or soup kitchens, and finds other ways to make homeless people feel very unwelcome there.
