After four weeks of riding single speed bikes , this morning I reversed the conversion on my Schwinn Crisscross, turning it back into a 1x8 .

The one time I rode the MUP on a SS , the hills were rough and I had to take more rests .
Now I just downshift into that 34 tooth gear in the back and spin .

With the weather folks saying Ida will start raining on us tonight through Wednesday, today will probably wrap up the month for me .
But , I had a good month . My best so far , since I’ve been keeping a log of my rides . I beat last August by a half mile .
With the way this year started off , I didn’t think I’d get to ride this much .

My goal was between 350 and 400, but I got super motivated to destress by my absolute hatred for a work project that got dumped on me when a guy quit without notice. The process and code are a complete pile of garbage and it will take me longer to figure out what he was trying to do versus just scraping it an starting from ground zero.

Anyway, that destressing has me at 505.6 miles MTD with 1 day left in Aug.

Caught a break in the rain and got out on the SS MTB for a little wet road ride . Very windy and it was tough to ride for some reason . Maybe the pressure drop or the humidity. It was like riding against a wall. Maybe it was the time of day . Who knows ? 🤣

Popped a spoke at mile 92, had to open up the rear brake so the wheel would roll, tried hard not to need to make sudden stops the last 15 miles. Other than that it was a fun way to spend my birthday. MapMyRide said the route was 108, Strava said 107.1, I'll go with the lower of the two.

My goal was 220; stretch goal was 301. I rode between 247 & 248. I also signed up for a 400 km challenge on Strava. I beat my 220 mile goal, but missed the challenge by less than 2 km. I forgot about the Strava challenge; if I had remembered I would have ridden the additional 2 klicks. As it is, I'm sorry I missed the 400 km mark, but glad I rode 398 (km).

I crossed the 1000 mile mark on 8/29 for the 5th 1,000 mile year in a row. I hit 1,000 earlier this year than previous years, and I'm riding faster than in previous years, though I'm still slow. Since I don't do well in the cold any more, I figure my riding will be limited for the rest of 2021, so my goal for the year is 1,300 miles; for September it's 200, which is more than I've ridden in any September since 2000. The world may be falling apart, but my riding is going well....
