THINNER Carbon rimmed road bike pads needed
Hello, I am looking for some advice on anyone who knows of thinner carbon rim brake pads that I could put in my Dura Ace brake shoes.
I am about to purchase some 23mm (exterior measurement) carbon wheels and they are to go on my Trek Madone 7 series.
Because it is a 2014 model it is before the advent of the wider rims and bigger clearance. So because of this my chainstay mounted Shimano calipers can only accommodate a certain width of rim. I can just about fit a 23mm rim in, but with no real space for pad clearance. This is when the calipers are fully open and unclamped.
So I am wondering (apart from filing my current carbon rim friendly brake pads down) if there is a shallower/thinner pad available for Shimano brake shoes.
Many thanks in advance.

I might be wrong, but I bet if you loosen the pinch bolt on the calipers holding the cable, you'll see that that brake calipers can open much wider.

Yep, that is what I did, I just opened the caliper a bit wider when I got my new wheels and the normal SwissStop Black Prince pads fit just fine.

This. I can't imagine that the brakes won't open wider with an adjustment of the cable. 23 mm is a very narrow space between brake pads on any modern rim brake.

Thanks for your messages so far.
I have caliper brakes on my Emonda, the brakes are in the standard place, i.e. on the seat stays and near the crown of the forks.
Alas here on the Madone Kammtail, the calipers in question are the direct mount 'under the chainstays' variant.
Things are a bit different design wise, there is only so much 'space' I can make for things.
I'd send a link to show you but it won't let me.

You just don't have a devious bone in your body! <grin>
Just post the pictures on some hosting site for pics like imgur.com and simply write the sharing URL link to them in the plain text of your post. When you remove the https:// from it and then put a space before and after any . then it will no longer be a URL, so no violation to you. They won't come in squad cars to pick you up and put you in prison for SPAM.

This addresses your issues, & says that that bike came stock w/ 23mm rims.

The slowtwitch article is very well done, but at the same time the OP says he has DA brakes -- the ones shown in the article look like Bontrager brand proprietary ones?
To go back to OP's question, again the Flash Evo also seem to be the option Trek sells themselves. https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/e...olorCode=black

Reading the comments to that article, it appears that there was a DA brake that was an upgrade, but still problematic.

I'm not seeing a problem. The 23mm (exterior) rims have not been purchased. If it's that much of an issue ... don't purchase them? What, exactly, am I missing here?
