Please post the bit about the Great Western Bicycle Rally (p. 12). It's a short article but is something I've ridden and would love to have been around for the rides of that era.
JMO, but these are the glory days of Bicycling! magazine. It declined as the 70's wore on (didn't everything?). Shortly after Rodale Press took over, I quit subscribing.

Uh, pretty much, yeah. It was a rather garden variety bike fitted with a Fitchel&Sachs T3. The machine needed a bit repair over the decades, but on the whole was impressively stalwart.
Towards the end he toured a few years on a BikeFriday and then for the last few years was sponsored by Brompton. Wonderful book about his adventures: Home Is Elsewhere - 50 Years Around the World by Bike.
