Perhaps foolishly, I am looking for 1000km for this month.

8/1 - 68km

(It's already August 1 here.)

Goal for August = keep the rubber side down.

Mileage will depend on where the smoke from western fires is carried.

I damn sure better hit 200 this month, considering I've got 180 planned miles alone in the last three days of the month...

Most of the miles came at the end of August, but yesterday I got back from a long weekend tour from my house to a state forest in south Jersey. Took a day ride to a county park with a zoo and to get groceries on Saturday. Yesterday rode to the coast and up to Atlantic City to catch a train back to Philly. Excluding the 5 or so miles in town and more inside the campground, I got in about 137. Friday and Saturday nights were unseasonably cool. Had a campfire both nights.

Hoping to do the 80 mile route of a club event to Brooklyn the Sunday before Labor Day and then take a nearly two-week tour from St. Albans, VT home to Philly starting the weekend after that.

Edit: Heh. Just realized the Brooklyn ride is not until September.

August goal: 400 miles

Upping the ante a bit since I've vowed to do another century on my birthday this year, luckily I have until the end of the month to get ready for that, and I've already mapped the route. Did the vintage ride yesterday (as detailed in the thread in the Vintage forum). Got there late because I was frantically searching for sunscreen (wasn't about to do a ride in that heat without it), and they left without me (can't blame them). They waited 10 minutes for me then gave up and started out. I figured I wasn't that far behind them so I tried to catch them. Took about 15 miles, but I did it (thankfully, they'd stopped for a break in San Gabriel). Got more of a workout than I'd planned when my rear wheel moved a little and started rubbing the frame. My hearing isn't great, but I didn't think I'd fail to hear something like that. A fellow rider came by and told me he heard it, thus prompting him to let me know about it. Sigh. Next month I should have a different vintage bike to ride.

Got a good start on my goal this morning, although about a third of my mileage was test rides trying to get my chain length and tensIon right on my SS converted Hardrock.
The chain was jumping teeth when putting pressure on riding uphill. Didn’t notice it until I took off toward town and had to climb two nice hills.
Gear ratio seems about right . I’m spinning out around 9.5 mph which is good around the neighborhood.

I did a 210k ride on Aug 1st (in the pouring rain and 60kph headwinds...) and I'd like to try and squeeze in 1 more 300k before the month's end. And a couple of group rides to catch up with riding friends
