Cool twin plate fork crown

Someone might like this. 83 Norco bigfoot. Sturdy, wide...looks architectural with little flying buttreses between the plates. Tough to braze maybe?

I had a similar fork on a lugged Shogun mountain bike. I've always liked this style of fork a lot.

I dig the fork, not so sure about the paint.

A similar fork came with my 1985 mongoose atb. Besides looking awesome, it weighs a ton and has a 21" steerer id.

I really like these and my favorite is the Ritchey design, but I think that caliper brakes hide them. I much prefer when they're set up with cantis so you can really show off the fork crown.

Nice looking crown. I've been thinking about making my own since that's how they were traditionally made. That wouldn't be particularly hard to braze, although there is a lot more shoreline to check than on a normal crown.

I wonder if they're tricky to braze the fork legs into, a big cast lump of steel would act like a major heat sink.

Bikes: Looking to buy a Masi Special track frame 57*57 or thereabouts or a Pogliaghi Italcorse or a De Rosa Prestige. I have owned a Mario Confenti brazed Carlsblad Masi with twin plate fork crown [Brian Bayliss] and 2 later model Pogliaghi track frames.

Masi stopped producing them

Masi stopped producing them because of the time consumed. I think they modified a crown that was in production, possibly the Cinelli tandem crown.

Does anyone know what crown Masi used?

Mine - pictured above - is less wavy than a Masi and almost an elongated oval or elliptical shape.

Zombie Threads

Hey Kid...

Zombie threads like this one which dates back 8 years to 2011 waste a lot of time for some of the members who can help you.

I don't like to have to scroll through dozens on old, many sometimes no longer relevant messages to answer someone's new question. Another reason, photos in many old messages are munged or missing.

A suggestion, start a new tread, you'll get more pertinent responses.

Here's a Cinelli Twin Plate crown used by Masi as late as 1974.

George Fischer cast fake twin plate crown. Throughout the 70's Masi, DeRosa and other top frame makers used standard George Fisher crowns with out the fake slot.

An old twin plate track crown.

George Fischer fake cast twin plate track crown.

Hope this helps...

Twin plate crowns look the coolest! That Pacenti Paris-Brest crown is sweet.

Then what does that make triple plate crowns? A lot of bicycles used them in the very late 19th and very early 20th centuries.

I've given that thought... the Wright Brothers' bike in the Smithsonian has a triple plate crown...

Still like the doubles.

Toaster?

The triple remind me of a radiator

I have a second picture. It seems to be the Fischer crown.

Recently repainted ultramarine colour.

It seems that this might be a John Abeni frame as I have seen another track frame almost identical painted by Peter at Star Enammelers

I don't see it resembling the cast Georg Fisher Crown that Chas shared a photo of in his thread. Even if yours was modified with the addition of inner tangs the rest of that Fisher unit and your "mystery" track fork crown don't have very much in common. Actually think the Mystery crown looks a good deal nicer!

Awesome! Ill post 2 pics when its painted ultramarine metallic blue with white/creme metallic tubing between the plates.

I love the marcel Duchamp reference but prefer his forks' lower rake!

How cool would a quad plate be?
