I've got to wonder that when life gets back to normal (which it will because we're all fickle and forget the past quickly), will there be an influx of used bikes on the market in a few months when everyone returns to work and realizes "they don't have time" to ride their bikes? I kind of hope so... I'll be waiting to swoop-up some good deals 
It's definitely a "sellers market" as far as bikes are concerned right now. I had 3 bikes for sale ranging from $1k to $2k in price and sold all three in the past month which really surprised me. Once things shift over to a "buyer's market" due to an influx of unused bikes, I'm going to be like a kid in a candy store

Yeah if you wanna sell something do it right now. I could probably sell my extra bikes for 10x what I bought them for at this point, but I like having a couple spares. In another couple months things will be like normal, maybe even a depressed demand.

It is pretty crazy, for projects I'll buy used higher end older bikes to fix or part out and flip for bike spending cash. Over the last month EVERYTHING has gone up 100% at least. Just about impossible to find a good deal, and if you do find one it better be a fresh post or there is no chance. Upside is all of the bike stuff I have for sale has pretty much sold. Couple of older marzocchi's & a bike frame & a bike. I've got money to spend but no where to spend it!
Missed out on one in particular that would have made for an enjoyable project. Oh well.

I'm going to have to check out the "sellers market" here. I've got a nice gravel bike I couldn't give away a few months ago. Maybe time to put it on CL!

It's funny you mention that... 3 of the bikes I sold were cyclo-cross bikes (Trek ION, Trek Crockett 5, Trek Boone 9). If ever there was a bike style that normally has no resale value, CX bikes are it! The one I just sold was a Trek Boone 9 with Ultegra and disc brakes in nearly perfect shape. I thought it would've sold quickly, but took several months. The new owner loves it.

Actually I noticed a very significant increase in adults and children riding department store bikes . I think it's a temporary increase until schools open and kids go back to school and people start going back to work.

Yesterday I went to a Canadian Tire superstore. Sure enough, the racks were 3/4 empty and only 5 adult CCM bikes selling for 4 - $500. I could see the front hub had sealed bearings, V brakes and a suspension fork. Had both kinds of headsets too. Way better than Walmart BSOs for sure.
There were still 40 kiddie bikes.
Driving around this afternoon there were families on bikes ALL over. Got my haircut, woohoo.

The most logical explanation for empty bike displays at Walmart, is that they cannot restock them easily due to the shutdowns. It is doubtful they are receiving new stock, and even more doubtful there is anyone available to assemble them, since those jobs are generally farmed out to a contractor. Yes, people are buying discount store bikes, but they always have been. Things are not that much different today in that regard.

While supply issues are certainly a possibility, it would not take much of an uptick in demand for bikes in the US, to clear out available inventories. I went out on a ride yesterday, and saw more bikes than I've ever seen before, a wide range of styles and price levels, and lots of families. There may be a couple of reasons. First, cycling may be seen as something that can be done safely outdoors. I'm not a virologist, but I suspect that being out in the wind is safer than indoors. Second, people are avoiding transit. The local bus service is running on a reduced schedule with a limit to the number of passengers on each bus.

Grand River Transit serving the Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo cities in Ontario, Canada is running free service until the end of May. Even with that I see few people on any of the buses I've seen go by. I also haven't seen much if any of an uptick in bicycle use hereabouts. I guess people are either staying indoors or driving to their destinations.

There's definitely more people riding around my neck of the woods. And, all three of the refurbished vintage bikes I had ready have sold in the last few weeks. I'm working on refurbishing another one right now. I figure it will sell quick. It's a pretty good used bike market right now.
