2022: The Stop & Go Roller Coaster...
First I returned to bike commuting in July, after 18 months of working from home. Then in September I missed almost three weeks due to Covid. Tomorrow I have hernia surgery and will be off the bike for a few weeks.
I discovered the hernia visually two weeks ago and have experienced no pain or discomfort. In fact, the doctor said I could continue riding to work (6 miles) as long as I took it easy...so I have, including a couple of longer weekend rides.
Thanks to the 50+ forum I know I should be okay in time, but it really stinks having to miss all the cool autumn-morning commutes.
I came back from a year off the bike in 2010 after a slipped disk in my neck, so I know this won't stop me in the long run, I just hate that I just got my commute-groove on, and driving in the car-traffic to and from the new job is much heavier and more frustrating than the last job.
I don't know if the proper metaphor here is a hill, or a long light, a detour, mechanical issues or maybe all of them.
I already miss my commute, and I have today's ahead of me.

BobbyG sounds like a long hill with bad pavement and headwinds! Best of luck on your operation and recovery.

Word. I'm "on" right now but it won't definitely last

Surgery a success. In pain, not as bad as I thought, but still significant. Thy also said they removed a little fat down there, so maybe I'll finally be spandex-ready.
