Shimano Ultegra gears - $80 (redwood city)
Date: 2010-01-24, 9:05PM PST

have a used set of front and rear gears. used to belong to my ex who used to work at a bike shop in mountain view. have no use for bike parts. took them in to a local bike shop and they told me they retail for over 100 each gear! its the parts that make the chain move to high and low gears. dont know much bout bikes and dont care for them too much. if you want some nice bike parts, leave your #. i was told they are a 10 speed set.

---------------------

It's tempting to send this reply ...

I have a couple of sections in my wallet. They contain a bunch of paper money things that my local bank tells me are worth between 1 and $100. They're basically the things you use to buy things with. I don't know much about them and they're not very pretty so I figure if I give you some will you send me your gears?

3 wheeler missing from the king of jeans. By the way, Philly had about a foot and a half of snow a while back.

https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/1567799077.html

On Friday about 11am I Walked Past My Bike That Was Double Chained On a Legal Bike U Outside of " King of Jeans " & No One Seen a Thing. It's Been Their For 6 Months. Why Does Anyone Have To Steal a Bike That's Needed. I Was Going To have It Cleaned Up From the Rain & Snow We Had Over the 6 Months. The Police Took a Report & the Chain Links That the Thieves Left Behind. Hopefully They Left Their Finger Prints On It & Thaty They're Prints Are In the System For Doing Other Crimes. All I Was Is My Bike Back That I Bought 18 Months Ago. If Anyone Has Information On Who Did It & Where My Bike Is; Please Let Me Know ASAP. It'll Be Most Appreciated. Please Do All the Best You Can. No Need To Use Your Personal Info To Catch the Thieves.

But wait there's more ... this time from eBay land

https://cgi.ebay.com/SHIMANO-DURA-ACE...item1c0f7c599e

This one in the category of "How to get zero bids on your auction" ...

(1) A pair of brake calipers are shown in the photo but not listed.
(2) The shifters are listed as 7900 series and the photo clearly shows they are not.

That many red flags and 5 feedback ... Bzzzt! You're outta here!!!!

This guy ruins a De Rosa by having braze-ons taken off and turning it into a fixed gear, and still wants $1,850 as a minimum bid.

From the ad: "and it has all the original parts even the tires but they are flat and I have not even tried to reinflate them so it stays as original as possible.. "- I can just see it now, some collector saying "That's not the original air in the tires, so it's not worth as much". Next step is to advertise a bike that "Still has the original vintage air in the tires!"

Never one to shy away from a challenge ... and here's the reply.

"???? i dont know what your talking about.... but if you want to come get the gears, you have to come to me..... let me know if you are still intrested. and cash only. thanks."

Apparently the poster finds vague references and abstract descriptions confusing. ROFL :-D I thought I'd be helpful and sent this clarification.

----------------

I might be interested but you would first have to be more specific about what you are selling than your current "something that attaches to the lower part of a bicycle and is probably made by Shimano" description. There are at least two series of Ultegra cassettes and cranksets that are considered "10 speed" (6600 and 6700) and within that there are at least half a dozen different cassette configurations and ten different crank configurations (standard, compact, 165, 167.5, 170, 172.5, 175). Some information about the condition of said parts would also be useful as amazing as it seems this does actually affect resale value.

Trying to be as helpful as I can here, you need to identify.

Series: (6600/6700 are the most likely)
Cassette Configuration: e.g. 12-25, 11-23 etc. (Hint: count the teeth on the smallest and largest cogs).
Crankset: Standard or Compact (53/39 or 50/34, again counting can be useful if you can't read the numbers)
Crank Arm Length: usually 172.5 or similar, likely written on the crank arm
Condition: new, slightly used, worn, badly worn, only being held together by the rust at this point etc.

If you're still having trouble the crankset is the big gear thingy and the cassette is the little gear thingy. Your LBS (Local Bike Shop) lied to you, even brand new Ultegra 6700 cassettes can be bought for less than $70 (including shipping) on ebay so $100 is somewhat optimistic.

54cm Reynolds 753 Merckx. Dura Ace 7400 Group. New King heatset, New Selle Italia saddle. Pearl Stem, 3T Merckx bars. Some of the components are new old stock including the crank, brake caliper, bottom bracket. The s h i t e r s are in good condition. Wheels are Dura Ace hubs with wheelsmith built open pros and dura ace cassette. New tires. Cranks are 172.5, bars are 42cm, stem is 110. The bike is pretty light and stiff for vintage steel. I hate to part with this but have too many bikes and not enought time to ride them all. $2500

Reminds me of a famous newspaper ad that did the rounds years ago for a ride-on mower. It was fully featured including "Sh*t on the go" capability. I gues you could mow and fertilize all at the same time :-D

It's not exactly a crappy frame, but I think the seller's really reaching for the stars nonetheless...

This seller has been listing his bike for months now, same description, at the same price, the whole time. One of the current CL Sacramento mainstays.

But they don't make the 1996 models anymore! It's collectible!

Take a hybrid that's a bit over 10 years old, add about an extra 50% to it's original price for inflation, it's "C&V" appeal, etc. Then sit back and wait for the $$$$$money$$$$$ to roll in...and wait...and wait....

...having trouble uploading the pix with the C.L. postings...

Bill, at least he doesn't want $50 bucks for it or something inane like that. $5 isn't bad, though it's still kinda dumb.

I'm sure this seller is wondering why no-one would bid on a lovely set of Mavic Elite wheels. We're all wondering why the picture shows a front wheel with 20 spokes and Mavic Elites have always had 18 :-D

https://cgi.ebay.com/Mavic-Ksyrium-El...item27aef2d5b0

I sent this message ...

"How many spokes does a Mavic Elite front wheel have? (Hint: 20 is not the right answer)."

Update: The seller not only replied but posted the question to the listing. I can only assume he/she is blissfully unaware of the faux pax. I'm guessing someone put Elite stickers on an Equipe wheel and managed to pass it off as an Elite. This is both sad and funny at the same time. The seller even relisted the item, but for the obvious reason still can't seem to attract any bids.

BARGIN Price! $495.00 or OBO and if you want Shimano, Japan, paddle shifters, add $50.00 dollars! Some bike sellers might claim their bike is expensive one AND may be it is, Yet, they would not say their bike has been used or ride extensively and don not mention WEAR and TEAR in EVERY PART OF THE BIKE as a result to many miles of riding! Read on and I rode around 130 miles and that is it and come and see for yourself to inspect geat teeth and all the mike parts, which are all original! I highly recommend that you read this add in full, because it has all the information that you need and “contacting and arranging meeting instructions all in this Ad!” I purchased new and cost me around $1300 with tax.
