Thanks noglider I think the Mercian tandem is one of my nicer looking bikes. I appreciate you saying that and it makes me want to take it out and ride it (and get some better pictures)... the paint really is beautiful up close and has a kind of golden wheat-like look to it. You've motivated me to ride it some more (and take pics)... so thanks again for that!! I also like that it's linear looking. So many tandems have triangular looking frames as the stoker is often much shorter than the captain. My wife is over 6ft tall, close to my height, which makes our tandems look more linear and locomotive-like (to my eyes anyway).

I agree. I think it is because the are a great span of different bikes and it is not a thread for a specific, other than color, bike. There are so, many bikes here that a great to look at, that I don't even want to cherry pick. There is also some really good photographs.

That is a Humber. It's basically a rebadged Raleigh Sprite, dated to around 1972. No model name anywhere on the bike.

The 1976 65cm Masi GC that my wife found as a frame/fork to replace the (too small) 60cm ‘72 (also champagne) from my brief racing days back then. Unlike the earlier one that was awesome everywhere, this big one was NOT a good descender, which I attempted to fix with an custom short rake fork. New fork helped, but not enough for confidence on the many steep hills of the PNW. It went to a new home in 2003 after a stop with the late Brian Baylis to touch up the paint.

You're too kind! Yes he is, but not in the cold season. He got quite a surprise the first time her rode into Central Park to be faced right away with Harlem Hill.
I've finished the front wheel rebuild with dynamo hub, so I'll be taking it to install the lighting soon. I also have wider bars and a Technomic stem to install.

Sir_Name, you have just built one of my winter projects! Is this a case of "Great minds think alike?" That is a 650b conversion, right? Mine has the same black fenders and wheels, and I've been trying to choose between Mustache bars or my usual upside-down black SOMA Oxford. Now it's easy - Oxford it is.

Of course, where you have gone with single (fixed?) speed, I'll give mine a derailleur and set it up for all-road touring. Very nice build, Sir!

Ha, I did see yours on the previous page and meant to comment...! Looks like the same year. This one is a bit small, but came to me for free from a prior LBS. A customer dropped it off for them to recycle and I happily obliged. The Nitto Albatross bars get me into a good position for now, somewhere between the tops and drops on my other better fitting frames/bikes. The wheels here are actually 700c: FiR EL 45 rims to Normandy hubs with a flip/flop rear purchased from a member here. 38mm tires measure to ~36mm on these rims and just barely fit.

I’m enjoying riding it fixed, my first. I saved the stock parts (well, minus wheels) and will likely strip the current gear and sell the frameset with original parts at some point to find something that fits a bit better. Maybe something British with track ends, road geometry, brake drillings and fender eyelets.

Curious to see how yours comes along! Is there a build thread??

I should do one, but to date I never have. My shop is chaotic, so it wouldn't make a good background. Plus, when I'm in there building, I go into intense concentration mode, and can't interrupt that to take photos. But I will shoot some detailed images when it's done and post them to the 650b thread.
