New Orleans Vintage 90s MTB Collector

Hello, I am from New Orleans and enjoy riding the trails and levees in the metro area. NOMAMBO is a great group for local MTB enthusiasts.

I collect and restore vintage 90's mountain bikes. I currently have a Klein Mantra, 1997 GT LTS-3, 1993 Bridgestone MB-4 (one of two current projects), 1998 Klein Pulse Comp (oher current project) and a Gary Fisher Utopia. I miss my 2011 Trek Gary Fisher Edition Kaitai that has now been stolen twice...

I grew up in New Orleans in the Carrollton area, near the river bend. I worked in a bike shop there that's no longer in business: the Bikesmith. Great city. Welcome to bikeforums. I like old MTBs. I currently have and ride 4: a 1992 Trek 950, a 1993 Bridgestone XO 2, a 1988 Specialized Stumpjumper, and a 1992 Specialized Stumpjumper.

Awesome. I'm from Uptown as well and currently live in the Carrollton Neighborhood. I have a '93 Bridgestone MB-4 that I just got and am restoring for rides around The Park. I remember The Bikesmith! GNO Cyclery is still there on S Carrollton. You're now in Iowa?

Old MTBs rock. Is that B'stone from the Bikesmith? It sold a lot of Bridgestones BITD. I picked up my '93 Bridgestone MB 1 here in Des Moines. But I also own and ride a 1993 XO 2 which I bought back when I worked at the Bikesmith. It was a great shop at one time (in the 80s) but it fell on hard times by the 90s and was sold off to its creditors. I picked up a lot of bike stuff at that auction.

Iowa (and the upper midwest more generally) has some great bike riding. You should visit the C&V section and show off some of your bikes. I like the Carrollton area a lot. When I go back to visit, I always rent a place there to stay. Good place to walk and there are great restaurants and coffee shops. Plus there is the river levee and the park for riding.

I got a 1998 GT Zaskar LE that was built up using modern parts by the previous owner. Love the bike, but its too small for me. I now ride a 1980 Norco Monterey

I would love to show you my plans for the MB-4 and get your thoughts.

Are you interested in selling the Zaskar?

At the moment, just a Fervor. But it's in beautiful condition and has some trick stuff (rare Lawwill Leader fork and some Ringle bits). And even a "cheap" Klein is still a step up from a lot of other bikes!

Agree 100% I'm spending a fortune restoring a Pulse Comp which wasn't a fancy Klein but I just love it. Would love to share pictures.
