Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I need of new bibs. Ripped up mine in crash. I have a question though.

I need some help with finding a good bib. I had these average performance ultra's with a pretty flat chamois see below). I ripped them up so I thought I would ask you guys if for the money there's better and lead me in the right direction? I can't spend allot because I also need a jersey, new helmet, rim straightened, bar tap, etc. At least carbon frame seems ok. Thanks!

PS. I hope that was my one and only nasty crash!!!

Did you have any complaints with these bibs pre-crash?

Only complaint is they are super thin. I haven't had many more but some say they are sub-par.

They're not. You won't do better under $200, and if anything padding gets thinner and more pressure focused above that price. You don't want a pillow under you.

I really like these. They are the best sub $100 bibs I've ever used. Right now they are $79.99 with the 20% off. You also get free shipping.

I have much much better for under $200. I have a set of Sugoi RS Pro that is a shop kit, about $139 and they're the best ones I've ever owned. Have several LG bibs that are far more comfortable than Performance bibs and they run $139-$150

That's really a matter of opinion, and certainly not my experience.

Gotta love the way the Sugoi fabric provides excellent compression but moves so freely it's like almost wearing nothing at all.

This was the first Sugoi kit I've ever had and after my first ride my first impression was that I've never ridden naked but now I know how it would feel. You are so right, the fit is excellent, like you're naked

Haha that's kinda funny that the Sugoi's feel like your not wear a whole lot because the 2015 Ultra felt that way and honestly I didn't really like that felling but got them anyway. Not say they are not better for sure just found that funny we are all so different. I know my question is subject to preference and you really don't know til try. But... suggestions are great!

I haven't used that specific Bellwether bib, but I have used a Bellwether mtb baggie with liner that has similar pad, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their chamois pad. However, chamois pad preferences are highly specific to each individual. The pad was neither very thick nor very thin, kinda middle of the road thickness, but it seemed very nice value for the price.

Hey you guys extolling fit of the Sugois. Did it ever occur to you that they fit you so well because of your shape? Who's to say they fit everyone like that? As for feeling like you are naked, that is not what I would seek in cycling shorts. I am in the light compression camp.

A friend of mine who is 10 months pregnant at 64yo loves HIS Sugoi shorts, AND they're the mid priced ones.

Thick pads are nasty. Your saddle should give you the padding you require. Performance shorts are my favorite.

I was skimming through and caught this line. I had to go back and read it again to make sure. Lol- I have a few uncles like that, too.

Performance Ultra bibs are unbeatable for the money.

I bought 2 pairs last month when they were on sale for $48. If you ever have an issue with them, Performance will replace them without a hassle. One could abuse that policy easily, but a simply stitching issue that shows up after 3 months(I've had it happen) gets replaced without question.

I have the Ultra SL's. Got them on sale and then hit an extra one day 20% off online orders. Wound up being $64 each. Got two of the black ones, not the ones with stripes. These are my first bibs since buying Assos many years ago.

Performance has upped their game. I think the Ultra SL line are superior to most of what Pearl Izumi puts out.

They could have better "guy" support, but are very comfortable otherwise. Like you, I think the padding is a bit thin but time will tell if it holds up. Padding technology has changed since I purchased my Assos anyway and so I am reserving opinion. I ride very thinly padded tri shorts at times and really never have a problem in that area anyway.

I'm very satisfied with the Ultra SL's and the price couldn't really be beat.

Agreed and was my main issue. I don't like the feel like everything is just hang'n there for all to see either. (They don't really but make me feel that way). haaha
