Surly Bridge Club

Does anyone have any experience with one?

Will not be doing long distance, loaded touring.

KATY Trail and paved and unpaved trails in Michigan. Also, back roads in Indiana where I live.

thanks.

No experience, but I have noticed that bike and it looks rather compelling to me, especially for the price. Might be a little overbuilt for Rails-to-trails, but that's something I could overlook.

The only thing that makes me hesitate is the weird rear dropout configuration. I kind of wish they would have just gone with the "Gnot-Boost"

Flat bar? Bridge Club.
Drop bar? Midnight Special.

If a flat bar configuration works for you, the Bridge Club is an outstanding prospect.

It would be fine on the Katy Trail. On the western end of the Katy there are hills between Clinton and Boonville. The rest is very flat. I'd prefer a compact double instead to better find a nice gear to cruise in. Also the tires are a little overkill for the Katy, but you could always put on smaller tires once the originals wear out. I've used 700x32s, 650bx47s, and 26x2.25 on the Katy and they all worked well.

You might want to ride the Tunnel Hill State Trail over in Illinois. Hillier than the Katy but a similar surface. Just remember to bring lights as the tunnel is very dark.
