2:30 today of mostly z2 for 107 TSS. Still cold and gross out but guilt prevailed. Also I'm discovering that I hate riding solo in the cold. I need some riding buddies. Also also I had to pee like 3 times in the first hour wth?

coffee?
Solo in the rain isn't fun, but I got used to it a little bit in college (Humboldt State). It was raining on me for the first 20 min of my ride yesterday.
What I hate the most is riding solo in the dark. It gives me anxiety, even w good lights. A few weeks back I spent 40 min going up and down a ~2 mi. neighborhood road by my apt until it got light enough to venture out.

Home alone on Christmas, went out this afternoon for 83 miles with lots of dirt and mud. Hard to keep traction riding 4mph up a very steep muddy hill!
Only had 900 calories for 5.5 hours and am now huddled inside bundled up after a bowl of pasta and a protein shake. Hurry up and process those carbs!

I've never had a punctured lung, but the ribs are no fun. At least the recovery is straight-forward.. last time was "only" two weeks for me after breaking two, then I was back on the bike.
How's the pain?

Did 3.5 hours with a team mate today, a southern loop.
Last day of base2, and damn was I dragging but I got it done. Adding the gym makes everything harder!
18 hours, 18 hours, then 15 hours this week.
+23 CTL from where I was this time last year - time will tell how it all plays out.

Same boat, I'm at like +3 same time as last year. BUT I was 2 weeks into base 2 this time last year and I just finished 2nd week of base 1 this year. If nothing else the higher number will be more fun to brag with!

Not sure I have the energy to run reports to compare CTL / TSB ytd, but I'm on pace to hit the exact amount of hours in 2016 as 2015.

According to Strava, I'm one hour (so far) over my previous highest year. I'm also 450 miles over that year. Apparently, I've gotten faster.

Thanks for the well wishes; it means more than you'll ever know. I'm out of the hospital now and recovering; still in a lot of pain but it gets slightly better each day. Christmas wasn't too bad, I had a surprising amount of visitors and a lot of well wishes on the Facebook.
I hope to be on the trainer in 2 weeks and at some point race again (hopefully before June) but you can't rush a punctured lung. My legs are unscathed (which is great). Who knows how I'll handle it mentally. Even greats like Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell and Ricky Bobby had those issues.
I was targeting races in February and everything was looking good at peaking during that time. It's another set back, then another ramp up; that's cycling (or endurance sports as a whole). This'll be the 3rd iteration (Flu, groin tear, crash).
Worst pain in my life and its not even close. When I got to the ER they put an 8" hose in my lung and they didn't sedate me, just had 4 goons hold me down. According to the doctor I was at risk for a heart attack, so they had to work fast. That hose was stuck in there for the next 2 days was painful whenever I moved, coughed or breathed too deep. It still hurts a lot but more like an 8 instead of a 10.

Just think how of how bearable the pain in your legs will feel in comparison once you're back to doing hard efforts

I've noticed this winter that when doing Z2 in the cold I have to pee quite often. Was getting bit worried but I hope it's just that and once the warm weather and/or the harder efforts come I'll be able to finish my rides without having to stop as it is quite inconvenient.

2x20's on the trainer/zwift @ new sweet spot, followed by commute in. My fluid trainer actually feels pretty nice after using the electronic one for a while. Thinking maybe I'll sell my TacX after I get it repaired.
Been a while since I've done a challenging set of these, felt pretty good!

fwiw any time i was injured/forced off the bike, i'd read a ton of training/tactics books. even if you can't train your body right now, you can train the mind.

FF, feel better.
I started reading car blogs to fill the time - I also realized how much time I actually spend on the bike, but I digress. Then I came up with the brilliant idea to trade in my truck for a fast car.
I miss my truck.

Bandages are off but I'm still getting back spasms and lung pain, but its much better. Contemplating getting on the trainer in a few days but I can't do it when my wife is at home because she'd lose it if I don't follow her timeline.
They really didn't cover the head injury; or the shoulder (which isn't broken but bruised the point I couldn't lift my arm for a few days. Hopefully they'll check it on my follow up.
The head doesn't hurt too much, I pray there's no long term issues.
I'm going to queue up some old races, maybe read some racer bios.
I need to figure something out; television is boring me to death.

Holy hell, feel better!!
4hrs35min solo base miles and low cadence strength intervals. 131km, through a thunderstorm. Today was my longest ever ride, in terms of time. 240TSS.
Another 3.5hrs solo base miles tomorrow, 4hrs including fast group ride Saturday, and 3hrs solo base miles on Sunday.

Third test of three before serious training starts next week. It's my first time using a coach with a real plan for me.
High-ish volume for a seriously mediocre amateur. 8-12 hours/week. Should be fun!
Test 3:
15min Warmup into Tempo Pace with a couple of bursts
2x - 2min @ 110-112% into 8min@100%(1st)-102(2nd)%
with 10min Recovery
SECOND 8MIN EFFORT SHOULD BE JUST COMPLETABLE
follow with 25min Steady Endurance (60-70%)
and 5min Cool down
