I've been gone for a while, but I can help here. If you're first, then your job is to take a whole bunch of TP and build a 'landing pad' directly under the seat so the splash is damped out.

I'm picturing someone misunderstanding this, and carefully placing a full roll of TP on end, down in the blue depths.

Of course, then the promoter is pissed at you because he now has to run to the store for more TP.

I'm on the fence about a flight or a road-trip. Late this month, I'm going to go from Houston to Grand Haven, Michigan for a vacation, a wedding (not ours), and to take engagement photos (ours). We'll be up there for a little over a week. The challenge, is that we're bringing the dog because boarding is costly, and we want the dog in the photos.

My fiancee is going up early for a work conference, so I'm looking at dropping 800+ for airfare (including the dog), or driving solo for 18+ hours with the dog. Gas for the car should run about $350 roundtrip. What would you do here?

I'd drive, but I like driving. I'm sure the drive will be less stressful for the dog too. Also easier to bring a bike.

36 hours in a car vs 6 hours flying? It would be an absurd waste of your time to drive.

Door to door, flying will be closer to 12 hours (depending on source/destination proximities to airports), plus the time for someone to drive to wait around/pick you up and drop you off at the airport. So probably more like 14-15 man-hours total time spent getting you from door to door. Then you gotta deal with dog shock and whatever packing nightmares that part of the trip entails. Plus, no bike, unless you want to chalk up another 3-hours round trip to pack that thing up 2 times as well, and unpack assemble 2 times.

FIFY.

I'd be pretty iffy about handing over Ridley to an airline in Houston in May and hoping for the best.

Actually, I wouldn't take the risk.

NICE!!!

So I guess this means I'm blowing off work and we're going to do TOAD?

You'll love Toyotas. Mrs. Shovel drives a 2008 Highlander Hybrid. You'd have to pry it from her cold dead hands. 138K and zero issues. Hit a deer head on. Bent the hood and trashed the grille and bumper cover. No airbag. These things are built right.

I'm going to get through the next few weeks and then decide about the TOAD/exteter-fitchburg period.

I really like the idea of TOAD, but it'll probably be a good chunk of change with gas and hotels and all. Spawn is down for the road trip in either direction, and I'm already off from work.

I was kidding about TOAD. I can't take that kind of time off as I'm hourly, but we should talk about Berger/Exeter/Longsjo. Many options.

gotcha, I'm gullible.

Having bought the vehicle that would get me to TOAD, it's now questionable if I can afford to go :/

With the AWD I think I'll be feeling it in the wallet, but I need it for north country living. I wouldn't be able to get into my driveway.

They make good stuff. My VW came with the full OEM treatment. 45mpg last tank but it's not the same kind of vehicle.

I am going to get some crap for this at the races next Tuesday. I had my blood taken by an EMT for an insurance screen and he obviously went through the other side.
