Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thinks he’s lurking in between doses of prescription pain killers. He’d dished out a “like” apparently...

I just learned that a noctor can't take my temperature. It's against the law.

Jonathan Vaughters made the Room Rater Twitter feed. 9/10 great background, one point off for camera angle.

My youngest daughter SAGed my Vermont 100/200 rides. Cold water bottles, real food, and moral support make the ride more enjoyable. She would drive ahead in 10 miles legs and cheer me on the climbs, and make sure I ate and drank enough even when I didn't want to. Listen to your SAG driver when they tell you what you need.

Ah, yeah. For me that would be double anything I've done, so I wouldn't be willing to try it unsupported.

I do need to check the climate chart and see how the fall goes, because it could easily be too cold for my fingers then.

Dumb as she is, am I right in understanding that the temperature taking isn't an effective precaution?

Last I checked, CDC still suggests this as a screening tool.

Time to ride. We are doing a 70-ish mile ride. If I were a mileage freak I wound ride to/from the start to make it a century, but I am trying to mellow in my old middle age.

But, some infected people do not immediately have a high temperature.

Interesting; I had thought it was too much of an inconsistent and lagging indicator to be of much value.

I got my two-drug ("cheap") cocktail alternative to Vimovo.

Fortunately, it's covered by insurance, but the receipt on one of the generics says the cash price is $1,145.17.

That’s correct, but it still catches cases. I need a temp check to get into my workplace if I ever go back.

Grrrr. Last night, I had cleared a long ride with the wife and had hoped to get out around 7am and return for the family obligations at around 3pm. I woke at 5:30 to the sounds of car tires on wet pavement followed shortly thereafter by thunder and rain.

Convective available potential energy at 1600 today. I suspect we’ll be back at the dock on the early side.

Doc is right, I was recuperating from anesthesia . . . that loopy feeling stays with you awhile.

All went well, the surgery team which includes the prep nurses, anesthesiologist, surgeon and recovery nurses (in that order) were all comforting, affable and professional. It means a lot for these people to make you feel confident and secure before going into a procedure. Even so, my BP pre-surgery was 156 / 77 compared to normal doctor's visits where I'm usually around 115 / 72 or thereabouts. Anxiety is real. lol

Pain is almost non-existent, I've been staying ahead of it really well with the prescribed Percocets every 4 hours.

It was a pretty hi-tech OR, I got a good look at the robot they use but regretted I couldn't take my own photo. Here's a stock photo of the setup.

My robot was a later model, shown here in a famous demonstration peeling a grape.

Bottom line is I survived; in 2 weeks I can resume all activities, no constraints. However in 6 weeks I'll be back under the knife, this for a left rotator cuff repair (sigh). Getting old ain't easy.

But all in all, I'm happy THIS is done.
