Phil Wood Touring Wheels 36 h 27" Mavic MA2 *WoW** Almost New
**SOLD**Immaculate set of vintage touring wheels with Phil Wood hubs laced to Mavic MA2 27" x 1-1/4" 36h clincher rims. I believe the hubs are early second generation based on the 1979 Mercian they came with. These are one of the nicest vintage touring wheels that I have had the pleasure of owning, they don't even look like they have ever been ridden! The rim braking surface is spectacular as are the hub bodies. The front spacing is 100mm and the rear is 125mm. Included is a 5 speed Suntour freewheel in great shape , freewheel spacers and mismatched QR skewers. The rear skewer is a high quality avocet and the front is a replacement sunshine QR. These hubs do have the earlier axels that are not field serviceable, so will need to be serviced by Phil wood eventually and could be upgraded to the field serviceable axles if desired. If you have any specific questions or would like specific pictures please ask and I will try to accommodate

Hi there, just a q about the hub spacing on these: Is it the case that the hubs would need to be serviced to take a 6 or 7 speed freewheel? The bike they'd be going on is correctly spaced (126mm rear), but unclear to me if there's give and take for a different FW, or if they'd need to be sent in to Phil. Thanks!

I would call those hubs generation 3 at least. 80's vintage or even early 90's.

These would be a great blingy wheelset for someone that doesn't want to convert to a 27" frame (of which there are many good ones) 700c. Bump and GLWS!

Phil was a small producer, they did not have model years. the hub shells are different than the prior three part assemblies that had a steel center.
Good question, but I was away from bicycle shops in the late 80's early 90's.
As of 1986, Phil hubs did not appear like what you have presented.
