After having crashed MTB'ing and had other riders happen upon me and pass by without so much as saying a word while I lay trailside bleeding and concussed, I find the OP's story of "Got a flat? How far ya' walked? How much further ya' got? How much was the bike? So long suckah!!" completely believable.

I'm aware, but the price of the shoes seems integral to the story. Was the guy wearing some of those high-toned white or multi-colored shoes that cost more than most bikes, or was he wearing sensible shoes. If going to ridicule some guy, we need the entire picture.

Maybe the walker was a folk music fan inspired by a song and taking a break. My favorite cover/version of that song.

I think his jersey had an armband on one of the sleeves. That should be a clue.

No not someone like that either. Its jus that you would think that if a guy can afford a $5000 bike, he could afford some tools and a spare.

My 26 inch tube wouldnt fit. I offered to patch it, and he said a large screw made a hole too large to patch, and he would probable need a new tire also. This is what he determined. I didnt demand to look at the tire or tube, that would have been calling him a liar.

All Im saying it is rather stupid to ride 10 miles from home with NOTHING. I see it all the time. And yes I always stop and ask if I can help, and if possible I do. BTW I carry both CO2 and a mini pump. If I do patch a tube, I hand the person the pump, and not use my CO2.

OP, since you're back online: What brand was it?

Just carrying a cell phone seems rather egotistical to me. It reminds me of the saying ------------a problem on his part does not constitute and emergency on someone elses part. Demanding they drop what ever they are doing and come and rescue him is a little pushy.

I dont remember, it was a CF bike, very smooth and aero, and you could just look at it and tell it was very expensive. BTW to add to the picture he was fully kitted too.

I don't think you get it.

My Yellow bike in the earlier picture is tubeless, the under saddle kit contains tools, a spare tube (Turbolito) and a special Turbolito only patch kit. Yet, it still contains a regular Rema patch kit I don't even have a use for.
I have fixed many flats for others.

My Black bike ($5k++) is also tubeless. It has almost nothing! No tube, no patch and no tools. Just a micro pump and a Dynaplug Racer, total weight 2.6oz.
I choose not to bring anything but bare minimum. If I have an issue I fully Expect to E.T. , AAA or rely on the good will of others.

I don't think this a bad choice, it is a calculated risk based on the reliability experience of my regularly maintained bikes over many miles.

So far, I've had ~10k miles without opening the under seat bag for my needs, YMMV

Well, if you're not the sort to help someone stuck by a mechanical, you're probably not the sort to put down what you're doing to go and help a friend of loved one who's in need, so you may not have any good karma to draw on.

Seems kind of cold to say that about a guy who offered his patch kit to help, and was turned down.
