Help! I want to find a Trek 790 Multitrack Frame

Hey guys!

My dream touring bike build is a 22" Trek 790 Multitrack from the 90's. The red one. Can anyone help me hunt down one for sale in Northern California?

Which NorCal? SF Bay Area CL has *tons* of vintage steel; keep an eye out. Here's what's currently available. Also, the difference between the 790 and the 750 is the components, so don't limit yourself. And keep an eye on the Bay of e.

There are lots of 700, 720, & 730's out there; my husband's theory is that people who wanted to try a bike got the less expensive one, didn't like it, and stuck it in the garage. People who were experienced cyclists spent the money and got the more expensive bike, then rode it into the ground.

Happy hunting!

There's a 20" red 790 in the DC area. I have no affiliation with, or knowledge of, the seller and the seller's at least an hour from me. I'd be willing to help facilitate if you are interested.

Don't have a lead for you currently but wanted to encourage you in your search. I prefer red bikes so looked for a '90 for a long time. Finally a '92 (the blue one) in the larger size popped up a few hours away and I grabbed it quickly. I've kept looking for lugged 750s and 790s off and on over the last few years and have only rarely seen them for sale in the largest size. I'll pass along a link if I find one.

In any case I wanted to confirm that these are great bikes. They have a solid and springy feel and are comfortable on pretty much any terrain. I've got gravel drops, a high stem and 42mm tires on mine and it's a great road/gravel/trail bike for sure. It's become the main (almost only) bike that I ride in the few years that I've had it and it's got some good competition. Beyond normal riding I've done some gravel bikepacking on it and it handled the load really well and maintained it's efficient feel.

You are going to have a hard time finding a specific bike in your color / size. Needing a 22" will not help since they made less of the uncommon sizes. I ride the same size and there are many vintage bikes I'd buy if I could find one.

I restored a 17" 1990 790 awhile back, it was a neat bike. It didn't fit my fiance so I moved it along.

Cool. Do you like bikes? If so, go around and admire others', ask questions, and after 10 posts (5 per day, just to make sure you're not a spammer or bot), you can post pics of the frame. Welcome! If you're not a fan, CraigsList is where you want to go. And welcome anyway!
