Not an S-Works. It's been painted. If it IS a Specialized, it would be a RockHopper.

I don't know my Specialized hierarchy, and, of course, stuff gets switched out all the time- but it looks like that's a pretty full XT group on there- wouldn't that be indicative of a Stumpjumper?

From my experience I duobt that this is repaint, it looks too original for me. My mistake that I did not mention that wheels are 28 inch so this would be trekking/touring model. Serial number is M1LL21592 and with some research found that merida bikes serial numbers start with M. Since specialized used xt group for high end 1992 models can it be that this is custom ordered s-works trekking/touring model? Specialized Sequoia used dx/lx mix in 1992

Do all date codes come from the same era? RD? FD? Brakes, levers? I highly doubt custom. Specialized wasn't known for that AFAIK. interesting beast, however.

Fd,rd, levers, brakes are marked with first leter P which equals 1991. 1991 shimano stuff on 1992 frame is I suppose normal thing.
Unusual beast with interesting history but who will know the thruth, maybe promo shop bike, display bike at some bike event...

What year did S-Works first appear? I'm thinking 1993.

My guess is this is an early 90s run of the mill Crossroads that had decals and XT group installed. Could also be a Hard Rock.

I don't think it is a Sequoia as I'd expect to see front fork braze ons during early 90s.

You should contact Specialized and get a definitive answer. I'm sure several of us would like to know.

Also bin ich wieder weg.
Viel Freude und macht's gut!

Google Translate: This wasn't spam, I just wanted to show my photos of the bike. Uploading photos is not possible, links do not work either. Private messages cannot be opened. Sending someone else the photos so that they can show them here is also not possible. My English is too bad to leave any useless comments here 10 times. So I'm gone again.
Have fun and do it well!
