Salsa Warbird - Road wheel set
I've been changing out the rear tire on my 2016 Salsa Warbird (Tiagra groupset) for winter trainer use. That limits how much I can ride in the winter (wheel on the bike trainer). I'd like to try a set of road-only tires and get a better wheel set. I include the factory specs for the wheels (WTB hubs, Formula rims, 2x10) Has anyone else done this on a Warbird? My brother says the mixed thru-axle might add an element of challengeFront HubSalsa, by Formula, 15 x 100mmRear HubSalsa, by Formula, 12 x 142mm

If you only need a new rear wheel finding a 700c wheel with a 12x142 thru axle hub should be fairly easy. Your brother is correct that finding a complete wheel set with 15x100 front and 12x142 rear thru axle hubs is going to be difficult unless you buy a duplicate wheel set from Salsa. Otherwise you may need to purchase the wheels separately as a mismatched pair.

It's looking kind of bleak. I cant justify a set of Mercury CF wheels at $1200.
I contacted Salsa, see if I could get a set of factory wheels, but I hoping to see what shedding some weight would do.
I have a pretty good local shop, I'll check in with them

That’s a common question and a good one. The best way to use a 15x100 wheel with your converted fork is install a 15mm to 12mm hub adapter. That way the kit remains installed which prevents inevitable damage to the thread adapter from repeated removal and reinstallation. I have those adapters, too, and can send one with your kit. Or you can poke around Amazon or Ebay where you’ll find plenty of options, most of which are the same as the ones I resell. I don’t make my own custom adapters because I don’t sell very many so it’s not worth committing to a production run of them.

Well, I lucked out. A shop in Illinois had a set of those seemingly discontinued wheel sets with mixed thru axle hubs. The shop was Velo Mine. They seemed pretty competent, so I had them spec out the cassette and rotors, and installed a set of Continental GP5000 wheels (32 mm's). They should deliver Sunday, I'm anxious to try them out.

new wheelset was finished and mounted, first ride today. Shifts well. I had to recenter the front brake rotor slightly. I was a little surprised these were lighter. The shop said these were great wheels.
The Silca calculator said to use 61.5 and 66.5 psi tire pressures, so that's what I went with.
Did 20 miles on the road, before it got too hot. Hit 37.9 mph, my fastest on that same downhill previously was 34.1 (usually around 33 mph)
I need to order another Garmin speed sensor.
