Yes that's the one, although I'm not sure that coating is hard anodizing, seems like something else, but I'm not an expert.

Mine is stuck. And obviously someone tried to use a pipe wrench to turn it so I was wondering if it was warped rather than tapered...

Thank you for the response and information!

1. Rides nice; other than the seatpost, seems well taken care of. Might be a wee bit on the small side for me unfortunately, but I am not sure yet.
2. Might have to replace stem/seatpost saddle and rapid fire shifters, which I have always disliked. Depends on how much stem is in the steerer, and whether the 7 speed Shimano thumbies I think I have will play nice.
3. It is light for steel.
4. Was thinking about dirt drop, but might be a little small for it. I'd have to really do well with a stem.
5. Surprisingly few scratches and nicks. Will be beautiful without a stuck post and with a polish and wax.
6. Deore DX is underrated good stuff.
I'm 5'11" and mine fit great when I was 19. Not so much as I got older so I turned it into kind of a trekking bike with a stem riser, tall stem, riser bars and grip shift. This frame would be too small for me to use as a dirt-drop. Pretty sure I spent more than the bike is worth on the cockpit

That little one is awesome!!!

We are the same height, and I am measuring 18"/20" CTC/CTT, so I am thinking they are the same size bike? Looks like a MTB/Commuter type it will stay!

Which Shimano thumbs will index to 7 speed besides the 7 speed specific ones. Doesn’t the 6 speed have a ghost click you can index?

As grandma might say, depends. Three random checks --

'87 Trek 630, Yes
'87 Schwinn High Sierra, assembled 11/1986, Yes
'87 Schwinn High Sierra, assembled 12/1986 (two weeks later), NO

Go figyah. I did not look for two-letter year/month date codes on the shifters themselves.

I saw that, but wondered whether it was the "Tall Cool One" mentioned (since the picture of the factory bike was tough to see.). I did look for more online and none looked tapered up toward the top. But it is subtle.

That said, previous attempts to remove said post were unsuccessful.

The other slick looking page goes on about the precision fit and polished inside of the ST facilitates changing the height better on the fly, until it doesn't apparently.

This may be a special kind of stuck, I would get it filled up with some kind of special sauce for a couple of weeks, then very carefully ride it around a little bit at a time with the clamp a bit loose to see if it will let go on its own.

At the moment I am pouring special sauce down my throat at the thought of two stuck seatpost projects...

I’ll feel better about them once I clear some of the giveaway bikes and make a little room in the porta-lat-trailer...
