Addiction 2022.4

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I should get a new bike. Or two, or three. Mrs. John doesn't care, we keep our money separate. I can buy whatever I want, I'm just afraid to spend money.

That said, I've been riding the Seven for 10+ years, except for the rare ride on the Gunnar. I can climb better on the Seven but it is a rougher ride. It'd be nice to find something with the best attributes of each.

We did have a nice ride today. It was cool and breezy but with just 2 of us it was extra casual. Stopped for a bagel and coffee and a chat.

Every guy needs a rat hole.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make a bike a business expense. If I can do that, Katy bar the door!

That’s when you start Venmo/Zelleing a boatload with your friends/family. One of my favorite clients is a subprime auto lender and this seems to be the game lots of people play to “show income.” Of course they see the money going right back out, but it’s comical to watch.

I was going to suggest he take one of the other bikes apart before bringing in the new one so if she counted whole bikes it would still be 9. Wouldn't work if she sees the finances, though.

Don't people write off golf as a business expense?

Club dues- no.

Guest fees, etc - maybe.

A few years ago, meals and entertainment expenses were not deductible. For a limited time during Covid, they were allowed again. I think we are back to non-deductable.

I leave it to the CPA to find the loopholes.

Well, I do have a separate account of my own with more than enough in it, so her disapproval is not what's keeping me from buying it. It's the knowledge that 1) $11K is 'decent used car' money, and 2) I don't really want it. Ever since I got the Litespeed, I have felt zero Bike Lust. I just want to ride IT. Oh, the other bikes are nice and I like riding them, but mostly when I think about riding it's on the Litespeed.

Mind, I'm still more conscious of just the flu now - y'all know I never liked flying and I'm not looking forward to going home, but I'll still probably mask on those forever. Already got seriously sick with something once...
After getting sick and riding a rollercoaster for about a month, I'm keen to take advantage of low-hanging fruit that'll help to avoid getting sick.

Along those lines, did a bit of Zwifting today and, hoo boy - respiratory illness and being off of the bike for a month will impact the fitness just a bit.

On the bright side, it's snowed about 6-8" today, so I got to fire up the snow blower in earnest, for the first time since YouTube-ing my way through the carburetor disassembly and cleaning.

Does that bring the total of BAM desired bikes to 5,862?

At this point, it's probably a coin flip as to whether or not I'll bring the bike. Between the questionable fitness and the two night DC layover eating in to the W'burg stay, hauling it along might be more trouble than it's worth. I'm in a wait-and-see mode, for both my fitness and the W'burg forecast.
