Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zwift is the plan. The Mem-Sah’b wants the virtual experience.

Run a cable from computer to big TV for the full immersion experience. Lots of group rides posted to keep it interesting if you are so inclined.

The “big” TV is in a different room. I’m afraid it’s going to be iPad.

Looks like Trainsnorter is atop the leaderboard this week. Kudos.

I didn’t even make the podium. Sad!

Consider moving it? I use my daughter’s old 21 inch monitor which is enough for me. The iPad is ok to start but you will enjoy it more if you have a bigger screen.

UCI MTB has 5-place podiums now. Maybe Addiction should too.

Enjoy your participation medal!

Maybe we could have a weekly “Top Ten” a la Letterman?

Reminds me of a possibly funny story. A few months ago I got roped/manipulated into giving a presentation at a conference. I HATE HATE HATE public speaking, and this was a decent size audience (100? 150?).

Anyway, to keep it light I made a powerpoint presentation a la Letterman: Top Ten Reasons to Prescribe SGLT-2 Inhibitors, and Top Ten Reasons to NOT Prescribe them.

It was not quite as funny as Letterman, but someone I survived and most people told me they liked it.

Bikes and trainer are in our tiny 1939 basement, which they share with many storage racks and my workbench and tools. It’s all shipshape and squared away, but pretty tight. It was actually set up as an entertainment space in a fairly recent reno, but there’s no place for a TV now.

Understood. That said, you can get a 21-23 inch monitor for under $100 which I suspect you might enjoy more than the iPad. Something to consider. I like the monitor MUCH more than just the MacBook screen.

Put monitor and big box fan on workbench while Zwifting.

edit: I just went down to my basement to ballpark measure my setup. You need approximately 6 feet of clearance, so as long as there is at least 6 feet from the wall opposite the bench (ie behind you when you took the pic) to the edge of the workbench, that should work fine.

I’ve podium’d a few times this summer. Got to get my miles in before I start traveling next month and also starting a Lupron regimen again this week. Last time, my miles dropped off 50%.

Since I no longer hav any interest in training, my wife and I use FulGaz instead of Zwift. We get to see real scenery while riding instead of cartoons. No group rides or structure, though.

Hey @MoAlpha, not that I am any good at design, but this is my setup and it works really well for me. I expect you could have something similar if you wish.

I don't really use Zwift for "training" per se although probably I should. I use it 2-3x/week in the winter when the road conditions are not safe for riding. I typically do either a virtual Zwift group ride (to keep it interesting) or better yet, a private group ride with a bunch of my friends and we talk on Discord (designed for gaming, but you can have a channel to talk in real time with your club-mates). The group ride aspect keeps it more interesting (IMO) than the virtual reality aspect. Both help, of course. It's amazing how fast an hour goes by on Zwift with friends, compared to how painfully slow an hour goes by on an old-fashioned trainer.

I rode the old bike and can tell that the position flattens me out by rolling my hips forward and balancing on the perenium and the sit bones equally. Right now I am more upright and on the sit bones mostly and cramped in the reach.

Ok, maybe i do have freakishly long arms.
FSA and ENVE make some nice 25.4mm seat posts with 25mm of setback.

That looks beautiful and a lot better to pre-gaming era eyes than the ZWIFT renderings. Wife might prefer it, although she does want some fairly compact and efficient workouts.

Guys like me don’t have friends, but that definitely sounds like fun and the ERG and structured workouts are what I need on hard days.

That makes the clunky and heavy $20 seatpost look pretty good to me.
