How about this?

Take an average number of days per week over several weeks and round up or down to a whole number.
_______

I don't ride much if at all in the winter, but I'm not considering that in my average.

One of my days (Saturday) is typically 100 miles, so this isn't exactly an in-depth picture meant to compare how much riding we're doing in a week, just a rough picture of the frequency. When I was just commuting while still rehabbing, I was riding the same number of days roughly, but only riding about 25 miles per week. My commute is only 2.4 miles one way.

My answer would have been 5 days both then and now, but I'm doing roughly 7 times more miles per week now.

Weather is definitely a factor. I'll get on an elliptical if it's raining.

I can't stand bike trainers, I miss the stimulation of actually travelling.

+1. Especially some of us who commute. Even if it's nice in the morning I may not ride if storms are predicted during working hours because I don't have indoor bike parking. Ergo, I may ride 5 days during the work week or far fewer. If I don't ride then I will walk or take the bus. Then there are weekend rides to factor in.

Per week is a bad metric for me. All in all, I might average 2.5 days a week over the course of a month. But some weeks I do no riding at all.

Also, time of year makes a big difference. Cold, thunderstorms, tornados and other things conspire to give me excuses. So even June will be much less riding than July and August will be which normally are my big mileage months.

Usually 7, but only real long rides on the weekend.

I no longer work at all in summers. One day about two weeks ago, I sent my wife a text message that said “Hey, I just realized that today is actually Tuesday.” She didn’t think that was very funny.

I just estimated by taking a typical yearly mileage total and dividing by typical ride length to get an estimated total number of rides.

BTW, I have the same preference for elliptical over indoor trainer.

Edit: The trainer just seems lame compared to a real ride. Also I’m used to a lot of time out of the saddle which adds variety and makes the ride more comfortable. Our elliptical allows working just arms, just legs or both in various modes and and can switch through a routine so there is a lot of variety. So I prefer that over sitting and going nowhere.

Otto

It depends on the weather. I don't want to get wet! ...or more to the point, I don't want to clean the bike after I get caught in the rain...

Yeah, I didn't explain that well. When I'm pedaling a bike, I expect to be traveling, I'm conditioned that way. So pedaling a stationary bike just seems interminable because my mind is expecting to be occupied with what I'm doing --alerted for traffic, dodging obstacles, etc. I don't run or cross country ski, so the elliptical motion isn't associated with anything in my mind but watching tv. I can totally zone out for 1-3 hours, and not focus on how tedious it is.

I'm in the 6-day-a-week club. This is a mix of commuting and riding for fitness, I don't get in as many miles as I used to, but I am on the bike pretty regularly.

So far 5 days is one up on 4 and 6. Pretty close. OP didn't say what he plans to do with this info, maybe change his schedule to match the winner?
