Ha! I have most issues of a few titles.
And a tendency toward wanting a complete set of each title.

What a great article. Very interesting career trajectory. Bob Stowe is Rob Stowe frames I presume?

i did not know she actually was a hands on builder.

She like made her money from the saddles.

Great read. I remember when they first got into the bike magazines. A few years ago one showed up at our coop and I had to explain that this was in fact the original fork. Such an underserved market still deserves attention today.

Thankyou so much man!

I've worked on a few Terry bikes and ridden a Terry and a Nishiki with the 700c/24" combo. Even being way too tall, they are nice bikes to ride. And one Terry I refurbished inside-out was just a really well-built and well-spec'd bike. People have such particular hangups and get freaked out by the small wheel--which, to be honest, takes a little effort and know-how to source a replacement for--but that's the way it goes, I guess. Great article, though.

SpeedofLite Thanks for posting this article. My wife has 3 Terry's now, and really enjoys them. I downloaded this article for my wife, it's probably the best write-up I've seen on Georgena Terry.

I had a very nice sport touring model. It was one of the first (and only) bikes I ever bought from shopgoodwill, somehow no one in Seattle thought it was worth $100. I'd assumed that it was a Japanese made frame, but I wonder if it had been an American one. Very nice build quality and purple/pink paint. Tange steel, lots of braze-ons, clearance for 32s and fenders. Even the fork had ample space for larger tires (24" BMX race tires share the ERD). Nice build with 105 brifters, 165mm m730 triple, and a Nitto cockpit.

After my wife never rode it, I sold it at our cities bike swap one year. Saw it back again a few years later, then saw it at our co-op. Last year when I went to one of the co-ops sales, it was back again. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem to stay in anyone's stable for long.

Did the early Terry bikes use ‘600a’ tires? That is 540 iso. The typical Terry bike uses 520 iso.

Thank you.

Excellent article, much appreciated.

I’m currently building a Terry-spec (700C/520C) road bike.
This will greatly aid in explaining to the new owner the how and why.
What’s great is that she is a small business owner, and will be thrilled to see Georgena Terry’s pic and read the story. We’ve had discussions at organized rides, and while many recognize the Terry brand, few know what’s behind it.

The only story I’ve heard is that models such as the Despatch were spelled that way because “there is no ‘I’ in Georgena.”
