Loves me some Flo & Eddie, them and The Turtles, John Sebastian and the boys could really do it the right way!

big john , Those folks, "Alabama Shakes", and her in particular, can really put on a show! Add in some, "Carolina Chocolate Drops", and it can just run all night.

Flo and Eddie- Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan- two great voices. I think Kaylan could sing opera and did sing some at the concert I saw.
And you can see watching that Alabama Shakes video how tight the band is, like they've played together for years. I think Brittany Howard has a solo album now but I don't know if she has any of the musicians from the Shakes with her.

The Turtles were fantastic -- didn't last long, but great while they lasted! Never saw them live, though Mrs. Badger did.

This is a fun thread. Musical tastes are always interesting. I'm one of those who likes almost anything ... if it's 'good of its kind'. Jazz, especially bebop (Parker; Pepper; Gordon; etc.), and classical have been lifelong constants, but for me 'pop' has always come and gone.

Came of age in the 60s, and have lots of faves from that era, then lost interest entirely in the 70s. Then came New Wave, and I was instantly re-hooked. Two bands from that era I consider still to be grotesquely underrated. Here's an example from the first -- Squeeze: Brit Pop at its best, imo, with songwriting genius (Difford and Tilbrook).

I have been listening to a particular song quite a bit lately. "Hyperdrive" by Jefferson Starship from the Dragonfly album, 1974. I saw them in concert that fall at the Cap Center in D.C. Grace Slick really nails this particular song, I have found it to be quite uplifting for me. Her voice, the lyrics and the music really grab me. I bought the mp3 version of the album and found that I forgot how good it was.

Jethro Tull. The worst of Ian Anderson and Martin Barre is better than most of the crap residing in the Music Hall of Fame.

I like Collective Soul. Music has no time boundries. Anyone can love or hate or be indifferent to music from any time period.

When I was young we often drove from our home in Southern California out to visit relatives in New Mexico. It was a long drive, especially with the 55 mph speed limit in those days, and with little else to do but sit in the back of the car as our parents drove, we listed to the radio in the car. As a kid, the mono radio with a single speaker in our family's '69 Plymouth Fury sounded rich and full, and the music had a deep and magical quality that exceeds what I hear and feel in the BMW 7 series I know drive, with its 16 speakers. The songs I most remember from those days are "American Pie," or "A Horse With No Name," "Betcha By Golly Wow," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," "The Air That I Breathe," " If You Could Read My Mind,* and a lot of others.

The drive was long and boring, with nothing but rocks, weeds, and Indian Trading Posts, like "Geronimo," "Twin Arrows," or "Jackrabbit." As kids we knew the trip well enough to bother asking "Are we there yet?" We didn't have TV monitors to watch, or phones to play with, so we listened to the music and played with toys from boxes of Cracker Jacks.

All over the place

Been listening to all of of John Prine since he died. Brings back allot of memories of smokey bars and picking up trim

Been. Dead head since college. Took me a while, even after attending some Dead concerts.

With CD going out, I've found some incredible deals on some old Stones, WHO, Commander Cody and His Lost Airmen, and other bands of that era.

Back in the day a couple flat bed trucks would pull up against each other and bands would play for the crowd. Seen some upstarts turn into big money bands.
