Identify old Peugeot 10 speed
Hello there,
Been riding my old Peugeot for a while now. I'm nearly certain it's a P8, but haven't a clue on what decade it is from. It's got the classic frame decals, "made in France, carbondale 103 built for Peugeot", blah, blah, blah. But the serial number on the underside simply says "123". There is a number engraved on the inside of the crank shafts that reads "S 170 00 . 2"
The drop down handlebars have brake levers, but there are also levers on the crossbars of the handlebars.
I've attached (poor quality) photos of the two, plus one of the bike itself. Can post more if that is not enough, but looking to find (roughly) what year it is from and its model.
Thanks for the help.
EDIT I did not post photos as I was informed I can only post photos after making 10 or more posts. So a lot of good this will do.

You can also upload pictures to the gallery that will be on your account page. Someone can take them from there and insert them here.
And it is Carbolite, not Carbondale. I'm sure we can narrow down the model and the year with some good photos.

HA! Corbondale. Yes, i meant cabolite thanks.
Anyway. I am uploading pictures of the bike to the gallery now. In the meantime, here's a few more details about the bike. It has Weinmann brakes with the handle extensions, Atax handlebars, lyotard pedals (which have a SN 136R). It also has simplex friction shifters, but a Shimano derailleur, both front and back.

I'm not a Pugeot expert, but for some reason I'm leaning toward a P9 possibly. Early 1980's.
You can search through some catalogs here:

Cool. Is there any specific reason you're leaning toward P9 over P8? Scouring those brochures the other day, and it was a bit of a toss up between the two, but leaning toward P8 just purely based on how available that bike was when it was produced.

I think the numbers on the crank are the arm length (170mm) and the "S" probably stands for Solida.
Are the rims alloy or steel. If they are Chrolux rims, that might help date it. Also, the handlebars, are they steel or aluminum?

Definitely not not a P8 or P9 as they used internally brazed, lugless frames. This looks like a frankenbiked UO8 or UO9. Serial number may be of non-drive side rear dropout.

so if it’s a UO8 or UO9, possibly older than I initially thought?

there’s no inscription on the rims other than ARAYA27x1 1/4 W/OHP. According to all the brochures, the rims and handlebars are an alloy. Can’t speak for the rims but the handlebars feel like steel, my guess, judging by how fridgid they get in the winter lol

I have no idea what you initially thought, as you never made a statement on that effect. Based on the decals and frame characteristics, I'd place it circa 1979-1982, assuming it is a USA market model. The OEM parts that would have borne date codes have long been replaced, so the only way to narrow it down would be via the serial number.

Hello @PurplePusher,
the serial number might be B00193679. If so, the first 0 is for the year 1980 and the next 01 is for the month January. This would be the date of frame manufacture.
