1985 Trek 670
I have decided to get my frame to a new owner who will appreciate what it is. Size is 57cm. It has been re-coated by Pro Kote Indy in a metallic red. The former paint was smoke damaged in an arson about 10 years ago, so it has a new color and not the original teal green. I have an original 531c seat tube decal and will include the shield style fork decals when they arrive from Greg. I am thinking it should be a great price at $300. What say the forum members?
Frame without decals.
Detail of the serial number.
The PC folks mask off the segments that need to be non-coated,
The original chrome is preserved by the coaters.
Detail of the bottom bracket.
Thanks for the help! Smiles, MH

I would think that Bloomington is a "hot" market for vintage bikes given that it is a very large college town. Plus you're not too far from Indianapolis. That should help push up the price.
I have a few old frames I need to sell and I always struggle a bit with what is a fair price. I think $300 is reasonable given the condition of the paint and the location. I think a headset and a binder bolt would help sell the bike. Not everyone has the tools or the know how to install a headset. BBs, on the other hand, are fairly easy to install.

I like these Treks,
We forum members tend to be pretty cheap, but I also think that if it was listed locally to me, that it would take a while to sell at 300. But it can't hurt to post it there and see what offers come in. Your best chance at that kind of money is ebay for sure.
Not to discount the work done to repaint etc. because I'm sure that if someone bought a 670 and then had it coated they might end up similarly $ wise and this could be a great value plus time saver. But it's tough to get the value back out of that kind of restoration work, and if someone repaints, red might not be their choice etc.
Just checked ebay and one sold for 40 plus 70 shipping. no fork and not refinished. Also large size, which is typically not as good.
I'd say it's not a crazy price, I may even start a local listing around there in case there's someone who's been looking for one, if no offers in a week though I'd probably drop it to 250. If you're really wanting to get a buyer then closer to 200 I would think it's gonna move in a week or two with some luck, or you'd at least have a response or two from interested parties.

We’re not all cheap, I paid twice that for a complete bike, then had the frame repainted. It was my size, and the exact bike I had been looking for, for some time.
The 670 was a one year only model in Trek green, although that frame was used on other models with different components and colors. I had the frame repainted in the original green, just changed out the white decals, not a fan of white saddles and tape, and apparently neither was the PO
As stated previously your not asking a crazy price, and the frame looks nicely done.
For me a 670 painted red would be a deal breaker, but probably not for others, it will build up to a great riding bike for the buyer though.
Added some pics of mine, PO is a forum member, and his pic with the ocean background, is way prettier then my garage door one.

Tim,
I painted it the same color as my 770 from '86 that was a team issued bike for Alex before the jersey incident. I know the teal was the only color for those and I got this one factory direct when I was working in a Trek shop. I left a remnant of the original paint on the steerer tube in case anyone wanted to match the original color down the road. This one is too big for me to ride now that I am suffering from age related size decrease. It was a great ride but, alas no longer. It should be in the hands of a new owner. Smiles, MH

Best of luck on the sale, being the original owner should definitely help. Its a gorgeous frame, it I had been anywhere near a Trek shop in 85, I would have had to have one too. Easy to understand the red paint now, thanks for sharing.

Tim,
Check out Greg's site Cyclomondo for the correct fork decals. Relatively inexpensive and easy to apply. Smiles, MH

Maybe I’m missing something, I know you can get the 531cs fork decals, but looking at the 85 Trek catalog, the fork had no decals. The PO added the ones that came on mine. The owner of the shop that repainted mine, who used to sell Treks in the day, also said, there should be no decals on the fork.
Thanks, Tim
