That still does not tell you much.

TSS of 700 in a week could be a recovery week for some. How negative of the TSB is better idea. Once I hit -30 TSB during normal training, I back off. I used to be able to push it to -50 and still get stronger. No more.

If I am super fit, I can do back to back 600+ days and need not much recover but if not fit I need 3-5 days of recovery and the overall effect is very counterproductive.

If someone has a CTL of 40 and they do a 700 week, they are toast and probably not sleeping well CTL vs ATL. Look at Amanda Coker, she did what 250 miles everyday for a year. A 700 week for her would have been a catastrophe.

It tells you quite a bit, I think, and I'm not too worried that a bunch of Coker-level fanatics are going to skew responses. Frankly, just knowing what TSS is, let alone knowing their CTL, is probably a good litmus test on whom to ignore. There are certainly some strong, dedicated riders on the forums, but I think it's pretty common that many neglect to plant their butt on a saddle because they're too busy talking out of their ass.

I know what TSS, CTL, CTL, TSB, and can tweak the exponents from the comfort of my couch. I have also done many back to back 700+ days.

Usually my GF and I will share a small bag of Salt & Vinegar potato chips and some chocolate milk. She stretches after that. I drink water and basically chill out with some youtube vids and a glass of cold water. That's about it until some food later on.

I use a foam roller, and do a couple simple yoga stretches (happy baby for the hips/lower back, and child's pose just to open up everything else). That's it. I don't do any other stretching really--the foam roller has replaced that. I do the whole thing in about 5 min, both in the morning, and then later on sometime after riding. I do it once on rest days w no riding. I'm 61 and if I stick to this consistently, I have very few problems with any aches or pains, thankfully, even with beating myself up on rigid bikes offroad. Beyond that, a couple nice IPAs and a big steak doesn't hurt after really long/hard days in the saddle.

No longer take long rides but in the old days... Rinse off the salt with the hose out side, strip off the spandex, then a double of Bourbon neat on the lawn chair with a big glass of iced orange juice for an air out. After a few then inside for a shower and food...

Now days I roll back up the driveway I just left about an hour ago knowing it doesn't count as a real ride. Then to the shower hoping my breathing and heart rate will slow down soon...

Yeah, yeah, yeah - we know; you haven't exactly been tight-lipped concerning your exploits. I wasn't accusing you of taking out of your ass, but commenting that is certainly happening elsewhere.

I recover by pointedly learning as little as I possibly can about TSS, CTL and MOUSE.

Other than that, what's to recover after a ride? I mow the grass, walk 3 to 5 miles with my wife and pretty much anything else.

Or are you just asking what we do to relax?

I think we've got to view this in context--what do you consider an extra-long ride? Also, what's the weather like? If I ride over 100 miles in 90+ degrees, I'm going to need a bit of laying around guzzling seltzers overnight. Also, a hilly 75 miles will take a lot more out of me than a 125 relatively flat miles.

Sounded like you were saying I was talking out of my ass and you specifically wanted numbers in response and since I had not provided them, I lowballed mine so that lovely people like you wouldn't make nasty comments but alas, you did anyway. This is probably the fifth time you have been rude and insulting. How about knocking it off.

No, you just choose to interpret it as such, thus manufacturing an excuse to rehash your palmares. Again.

No adult beverage…never developed a taste for them…and no fire…too many fire bans where I live…but yup, same here. You did forgot to add “sleep on the ground”. I go to bed with the sun and wake with the sun. Repeat the next day. All these other hot house flowers who have to have hot water, tubs, massages, etc. make me laugh.

I honestly think if a rider can do 65-70% of a ride in training, they should not need much recovery. My original post seems trite but it is what has worked for me. If 1-2 days rest is not enough, you went to much (TSS, distance, elevation, power, joules, etc.) Give it more time. In effect, the ride was counterproductive.

Water, dried Montmorency cherries, more water and get back to work, rinse repeat. No indulgences or self-pampering. There's too much to do. Cycling keeps the mind and body sharp for life's stressors.

Or are you just asking what we do to relax?
If you are not trying to improve your fitness and riding well within your limits then you don't need much recovery time. But if you are building your fitness (say for a target event a few months down the line) and your training rides are really pushing your limits, then adequate recovery time becomes critical. You follow a basic cycle of controlled overload during training and adaptation occurs during recovery. Without the recovery time you just burn yourself out if you are doing hard rides continually and there comes a point when you can't even ride hard anymore because of all the accumulated fatigue. Or if you only do easy rides every day then you don't need any recovery, but you don't get any faster as there is no stimulus to drive adaptation (which is fine if you are not trying to get faster).

Here is an interesting book on recovery - Good to Go. https://www.amazon.com/Good-Go-Athle...s%2C205&sr=8-6

I like compression and neuromuscular stimulation as adjuncts since I seem to be able to use them and they feel good and I use massage on occasion.
