Help! I'm making a change from road biking to mountain biking. On my road bike, I use clips and have expensive SIDI wide-fit shoes. These are no good for the MTB because I'm going to be getting off and walking which i can't do in my rigid road shoes. So I'm looking for wide-fit SPD trekking or MTB shoes and I can't find anything under £150.

Any ideas, anyone?

Shimano makes wide versions of their shoes. I bit the bullet and purchased the SH-XC7 dual BOA shoes in wide. Most comfortable shoes I've ever ridden. I'm a 46 4E

Sidi has what they call wide in MTB called mega. I have a pair and they are just as stiff as the road versions. Lake makes wide and extra wide in the MTB version but I don't know if they are more flexible. The Sidi mega is a larger volume shoe overall. The Lake wide and extra wide are wider in the fore foot or toe box as some people call it.

I thought I had read that Sidi discontinued wide versions and a look at their website doesn't indicate any wide specific Mt. bike shoes.

And as note to the OP, I use the Lake 303 extra wide Mt. Bike winter shoes, find them less wide than the Shimanos. I've used. Not particularly warm either, kind of a waste of money.

Sidi's designation for wide shoes is mega.

I have the more expensive Specialized S-Works Recon shoes, but I believe that Specialized keeps pretty much the same fit through the lineup.

I have the normal width and my feet are just slightly wide, but the toe box is very comfortable with plenty of room. Great adjustment and they fit well whether I'm wearing my lightweight summer socks, or thicker wool for colder rides. They have a wide version as well which would have even more space if needed.

I would think the Recon 2.0 or maybe 3.0 would be within your budget and would be great, comfortable shoes.

fwiw - I'm happy with these Giro Chambre shoes. I got them because I wanted a wide toe box & my former shoes were too narrow up front. I bought them on clearance so you may not be able to find them but maybe a newer model of the same brand would be worth looking at?

Any/most of the FiveTen offerings with SPD should be plenty wide enough. Try the Hellcat.

Lake wide. Bought a pair for road riding and liked them so much bought a pair of their mountain shoes.

I have the MTB version but they differ only in some different tread. I want something better for walking.
