‘68 Carlton Flyer Rides again

I picked this frame up about 13 or 14 years ago. I’ve ridden centuries on it, I’ve used it for commuting, I’ve done mini tours on it. When i moved back east from California in 2014 it sat neglected as a bare frame.
Now that my son is nearly as tall i as am i needed another road bike around so I built her back up, mainly using parts from a Jack Taylor TOB i sold a few years ago.
I forgot how well this bike just fits me and it does what i ask it to.

I took some paint damage on the TT that i need to figure out how to match/repair/stabilize. And I need to find a dyno light for it. And I’m going to convert that old French rear light with an LED. And….I’m probably not letting me son ride this bike either to be honest.

😂🤣🙃 That was awesome, completely unexpected. 😁

I've seen your username in many an old post, but not many new-ish ones. Welcome back, if that applies. 🤔🙂

Howdy, Brian! The Flyer looks great and I'm glad to see it on the road again... Our conversation about my purchasing the frame a couple years ago sort of vanished into thin air although I almost reached out again at some point. Looks like it was appropriate that it stuck around your place to get new life breathed into it, as I'm currently trying to vacate numerous bikes due to storage issues. Ha! Keep on ridin'!

A number of years ago, when I encountered one of these frame/forks at a bike swap in Albuquerque, some of the only information I could find was a post from you where I wrote that I'd buy that for a hundred bucks. And so then I bought mine for a hundred bucks...

Took it to California, Europe, Ohio and now back to Pennsylvania. Fantastic frame and fork. I've only ridden mine as a fixed gear for all these years, and I still love it.

You could do worse!

...I somehow lucked into a similar Carlton Flyer here, some years back. It was even painted that same fabulous green, but in much worse shape than yours.
I tried matching it a number of times, but it's almost impossible. I think it's some sort of transparent lacquer, over either a metallic base or chrome. And on mine the lacquer had aged into a lot of different hues, all over.

But I agree that it's a very nice riding frame. Not sure why, but those guys knew what they were doing.
