1990's MTB headset removal issue
I am working on my old MTB (1996 Voodoo) and I am trying to remove the stem but I cannot seem to get the cap off it even after removing the bolt. It looks like the cap might be a screw in type thing but I have no idea on how to loosen/remove the cap. Any ideas? It’s 90’s and earlier tech so I am hoping the good people here have an idea…
It is a Aheadset setup with a patent #5095770.
Cheers...
The center bolt has been removed but the cap, which is plastic up top, is wedged in solidly. I think it might be screwed in but have no idea on how to loosen/remove it
This is the product's patent schematic.

Loosen the stem clamp bolts.
And this is a purely mechanical issue/question and should be posted in 'bicycle mechanics' not here.

Yeah try loosening the stem bolts. It should not normally be necessary to do so in order to remove the cap it is worth a try.
However, if it DOES work, the. Something was very wrong with the setup.

From the photo above, it looks like all the bolts are removed.
Add some penetrating oil, then grab the front wheel with the knees and see if the stem will turn? If the stem cap is threaded into the steer tube, then turning the handlebars counterclockwise may help loosen it. Or, you'll at least see how it is behaving.

Update - took a rubber mallet and whacked the stem from underneath after removing its bolts. This got the cap to pop out as turns out the top was just compressed into the top of the fork tube. I feel like it was a cheap way to build this but it worked!
Thanks!
