Sorry to hear that Fred. My condolences. I was thinking about him and David the other day. How is David doing?

Condolences on the loss Fred, it’s never easy to deal with. Been said, but losing one of the engineering brotherhood hits home as well.

Another good man done gone a full go ‘round.

Sorry to hear that Fred... If age is not enough then also getting a disease that very well could be vaccine preventable is a kicker. I see the loss of someone who knew and experienced "The ****". I have worked around engineers of the type that were trusted to put together refineries and trouble shoot things in the oil industry. I can say this... They have all been "Jacks of All Trades" and very easy to get along with. They have always been people who offered solutions rather than problems. So not even knowing him I can see his profile in his life long career and his friends on this forum...

Sorry to hear about your friend Roy.

Friends are harder to make as we get along, and mean more to us as well, I think.

- a fellow Fred

True -- there are a lot of us engineer types on Bike Forums. Just reading this thread made me feel as though I have lost another "good friend I never met."

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's a bit close to home for me... kind of-- eventually. I'm 56, and my riding buddy is twenty years my senior. He continues to ride with our local cycling club and comes with me to cycling events I ride. Usually, I'll do the century, and he'll do the metric century or 80-mile option. He did his last century in February 2018 when I organized a century ride for a few of us from Key Largo to Key West. He looked at me at about the 85-mile mark and said, "We're not friends right now." I laughed and told him he could hate me after the next 15 or so miles. He's still in great shape even though I pull him more and more each year. But the lovable and grinning SOB still consistently drops me on the climbs!

I have thought about the day he won't be riding or might not be with us.
