Jan 1 Mt. Hamilton

Anyone putting together a ride, or know of a ride that's going up Mt. Hamilton on Jan 1st?

Not in the rain I don't and the forecast says so.

Weatherunderground is predicting 50% chance of rain for New Year's Day.

We went up yesterday and one of our members even provided a Sag support in celebration of his birthday.

Will be going up Diablo on New Years from Danville at 9am unless the weather is too bad.

Rain itself doesn't concern me, but descending wet roads, likely with mud or gravel washed onto them, does. My sense of self-preservation has evolved some over this past year.

Chain Reaction bike shop sent out an invitation:

MOUNT HAMILTON NEW YEAR'S DAY RIDE INFO-This will be the umpteenth-annual unsupported ride up Mount Hamilton this coming Friday morning (New Year's Day). No support, no organization, just people showing up to ride up the Bay Area's biggest climb so, no matter how the rest of the year goes, you feel like you accomplished something. (There will also be many cyclists out on Mt. Diablo and Mt. Tamalpais as well)

Faster cyclists will be setting out at 9am, with those needing a bit more time at 8:30am. What's fast? Somebody who can ride up in 1:45 or better. What's slow? Good question! I'll be riding up with my son at 9, and figure he can do it in about 2 hours 15 minutes or so. First-timers could take 3 hours... it's a long, 20-mile climb to the top.

Reviews of some of their past New Year's rides: https://www.chainreaction.com/mthamilton.htm

well, the rain held off and it was a great way to start the year. a little cloudy and cool but the visibility was great and there were a good number of bikes out there. here's to many more Hamilton ascents this year.

Glad it turned out well! I've got to start taking these weather forecasts with a grain of salt.

I let the forecast keep me inside yesterday, as it looked to be threatening rain whenever I looked outside. Of course, it never rained, not even a drop. Damn.

I know! The last time I rode with forecast 50% rain, it was a steady rain all day! The last time I rode with forecast rain "late in the day" it started raining at 12pm. I did everyone a favor by staying in and keeping the weather clear.
