So my chain and crankset, which is a sram quarq force crankset, was delivered today. I installed the rings previously purchased onto the crank arms. I'm kinda having cold feet about swapping to the compact now. Weird.... should I stay with the 53/39 or go to the 50 /34? I hate these kind of decisions . Ima sleep on it.

We are having an almost sweet-free season. Wife has lost 60 lbs since June, with 10 to go, and is only going to break discipline for a day of sauerbraten and black fruitcake (which a friend sends every year) and I have been getting my cookies at work.

I've never sworn off sweets completely, but I had cut down pretty dramatically over the last year. I certainly felt the urge kick back in a few weeks ago, though. Damn winter. I think that the trip, and getting active outside, will help though, and at just the right time.

We have a one pound box of Sees candy here, and it's not gone yet. Another box of truffles in reserve.

And at least around here, people will drive around in the pre-dawn gloom without their lights on, even in fog.
Interestingly, the spare in my old GTI was a real tire (either a ContiAllSeaonContact or ContiProContact) with the same outside diameter as the normal tires and wheels, but narrower (perhaps 165-185 instead of 225) Despite that, the spare wheel itself came with the typical warning about 60 miles/ 60mph.

Regarding sweets and carbs in general, despite my svelte and lean body, I do have pre-diabetes thanks to my father's side of the family. I have not really made any dietary adjustments YET, but I am confident in the near future I will have to make a conscious effort to drop my carbs except for pre-ride meals.

...three feet from your rear bumper in traffic at 68 MPH while texting with three kids in the back and we won't discuss what they do to cyclists now, will we?
