Thanks to the forum for the ad! I live in Western Maryland and restarted cycling last year, after a 20+ year absence, I'm 59 now.
My brother introduced me to gravel bikes, which seems like a great choice for me (he rode 5,500 miles last year).
I ride 80% on the road, but the nearby C&O Canal offers numerous jump on/off points, so a gravel bike is perfect.
My progression has been, since last year:
- added multi-purpose semi-slick tires to my 25 year old Specialized Rockhopper, it was OK
- I bought a cheap, suspension hybrid. My brother said I would hate it, he was right. A neighbor eagerly bought that one
- I found a Raleigh Redux3 flat bar gravel/city but found it really wasn't geared right, sold it in one day on Facebook (folks were fighting over it)
- I found a NOS Salsa Warbird at a NY shop and have been riding it for about two months now - the drop bar is great and I love it
(added a Specialized CR-G seat post)
The new tech of gravel, etc, is fascinating and I'm looking forward to more miles and education.
My goal is to ride 60 miles on my 60th birthday in August (probably on the Canal)

Welcome Warbird21,
Really love western Md and family plans on visiting Deep Creek Lake in July. Some great riding there. The C&O canal is perfect for gravel. Enjoy yourself.
