it was my dads road bike, my hybrid hits 40-45 on edgewood and the end of kings easy though

I am ashamed to say I searched for Larry Sellers on Strava and found 3. One has rides in Utah, where Larry claims to be from - but if i recall this thread correctly, he's in CA now.

I am NOT ashamed to say that i just finished re-reading that entire "Upgrade or not" thread by JSChristian. Had a very enjoyable couple of hours!

I recently got a very cool big motorcycle. Suddenly I get waved at a lot. I did not know about this thing.
On my bike that I pedal - motorcycle riders do not wave at me. On my motorcycle they do.

40-45 mph at the bottom of Kings Mountain Rd. Where the grade is < 8%, and the road ends at a stop sign. On a POS hybrid with no rear brake.

BTW, be sure to stop at that stop sign. I rolled slowly and cautiously through there a couple of weeks ago, cost me $197.

I saw someone almost die on Kings yesterday, some jerk passed me on a blind corner (I was hugging the right doing nothing wrong) and a cyclist appeared, he was going slow but was very spooked. If he was holding speed it could have been bad. Spooked me bit and I turned around until I saw a small group and rode up with them for safety and company. Also Doge waving is definitely a thing for motorcycles, I wave at all 2 wheelers and motorcylces wave back like 75% of the time. Id be super pissed if I was stopped by a cop at that stop sign, I didn't know that cyclists ever stop at it, I certainly haven't slowed down for it.

Police car was rolling up Kings towards me, but too far away and in too stealthy a vehicle for me to register on my cop radar. Deputy was almost apologetic, saying "we get lots of complaints from the residents about cyclists".

I've lately noticed tickets being given out to cars at the 84-Canada/Mountain Home intersection, too.

Former NorCal rider/racer for 10 years living in San Mateo. I rode all the roads discussed in this thread, belonged to Larry’s fav racing team and raced up most of the climbs.

Woodside, CA has tough enforcement of traffic laws against cyclists violating the traffic laws. My two favorite intersections were Canada Road and Jeffreys and Mountain Home and Portola. And of course, the bottom Kings. I would stop and put a foot down at those intersections. Why? Because the cops hide from view and they do not recognize a slow roll through the stop sign as a stop.

Larry, it is just a matter of time until you get a ticket. And those more famous cyclists traps are not the only ones. I have seen the cops at Tripp and 84. I am looking forward to the thread after you get a ticket and how you spin the tale of woe.

Larry, here is a route that is a target rich environment of accomplished cyclists ideal for a flat bar assassin to draft, pass, wave at, talk with and say hi and there are a lot of very fast motor cyclists.

Pick a starting point and ride up OLH to 35. Right on 35 to 84. Descend 84 and take a left on Pecadero and follow the signs to Pescadero. Turn right on Stages Road and take it to the Coast Highway and continue north to Tunitas Creek road. Climb Tunitas Creek and descend 84. Voila. At Webcor / AltoVelo, we called that the Coastal Classic.

I do not remember seeing ANY flatbar assassins on the west side of Skyline or on this ride. So you may be the first. Lots of climbing, fast descending and punchy hills on Stage Road to soften up your legs for the Tunitas climb - I will say at least 5 hours of riding. If you have not been to the top of 84 and 35 where the motor cyclists hang out, check it out and make sure you stop at San Gregoria store at the corner of Stage road and 84 near the coast. With your speed and skills, you will be overtaking cyclists and groups and I cannot wait to hear the stories.

Wait a minute…Larry, have you actually climbed Kings Mountain or OLH to the top? And if so, how long did it take?
