Prescriptions and Racing

Anyone know the affects or have an opinion on road racing and training while taking Lexapro or a similar selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) ?

Probably best to ask the administering physician about hard physical exertion while taking it. They may not know about bike racing in particular but they will know about it's effects on exercise and mental acuity.

Don't combine an ssri with high amounts of caffeine and cold and sinus medication. I'm pretty sure I was high (I wasn't going for high, I just had a cold and wanted to wake up).

I know there aren't any major contraindications to exercise but if you're looking for minor things, or how it will show up in blood tests, I'd go to see a doc.

I've been on SSRI's forever (sadly, NPI), and in my opinion they haven't affected my performance at all. Perhaps some will affect weight gain, which will have an indirect effect on performance. The way I look at it, is if you're feeling better, with a better mental disposition, your training and racing will improve; so any deficit incurred from the Rx will be more than compensated for by your improved outlook.

Should have no effect on performance. Maybe you will enjoy the ride more?

edit: I just checked the WADA site and there are no antidepressants listed. Here is the link:https://www.wada-ama.org/rtecontent/d...20_Sept_08.pdf
