Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What materials are the socks you wear? (I'm addressing anyone, not only those who just bought socks.) I've learned never to wear cotton socks on any occasion. They absorb sweat and hold it, and as I'm prone to fungus, that helps the fungus collect and grow on my feet. I normally wear socks that are 85% wool ant 15% nylon. Sometimes I'll wear 100% synthetic socks. And I'm very careful to change my socks every day, sometimes twice a day.

Picked up my 2021 TCR Pro 0 Disc on Monday. Only upgrades/modifications are the following:

-11x32 R8000 cassette (replacing the OEM 11x30). 95% of my rides are in mountains (over 3000ft of total elevation per 40-50kms) so I am expecting some improvements during my climbs.
-Dura-Ace rotors (not installed yet - currently in the mail).

To my big surprise, the bike didn't come with RideSense (speed&cadence sensor) even if it's the top-of-the-line non-SL TCR. LBS was not able to explain why since it came factory on the 2018-2019-2020 but I suspect that it's because cadence is available through the OEM Power Meter & speed is available through most of the bike computers and that Giant wanted to save on production costs.

I have a lot of defeet and sock guy brand socks and my favorite are the sock guy socks that are a blend of 75% Acrylic, 15% Nylon, 10% Spandex.
They stretch easily(big feet), are double stitched in the heel and toe, have held up thru years of washing, and they don't shrink in the dryer.
Lots of different colors and designs too from plain to wild.

Pair of Wellgo dual platform (SPD/regular shoes) Quick Release pedals. They pop on and off perfectly and work brilliantly. Gonna switch all my bikes to these now. Dirt cheap from Aliexpress too, but they keep running out of the combo of that pedal and the QRD2 mechanism vs the earlier clunkier V1.

I've been on a month long escapade of trying to find a proper fitting bike shoe. I'm a D+ / E in width, local shops are low or out of stock on any shoes so I've been ordering and returning numerous pairs from online stores looking for one that fits correctly and doesn't numb my feet. Thanks manufacturers for having multiple nonstandard sizing charts, last dimensions, and numbers charts; nothing like a trigonometry equation to figure out if my shoes will fit. I've purchased Bont Vaypor S, Bontrager Velocis, Bontrager Velocis Wide, Specialized S-Works 7, Lake CX238, and Lake CX241 recently.

Garmin 530. My 3 year old Garmin 520 reports incorrect climb numbers and sometimes resets itself during the ride. I tried to do the factory reset and now it is stuck on the Garmin Logo whenever I try to power it up. I hope 530 will be more reliable.

Got my gear ratio down to 20!!

I wanted to reduce my gear ratio from 24 to 20 to help my hill climbs.
So time to buy a replacement freewheel with a nice low 34 tooth ring. Fitted it and got a problem with the derailleur clashing with the large gear.
I thought I would need to replace the rear changer but I found this great small hanger extender! Problem solved!

Nice low gear ring for GBP 17

The little piece of metal that made a huge difference! for GBP 6

Before without the hanger extender

All fitted and running smoothly!

used my Strava Le Col coupon and picked up a cycling cap, some winter gloves, and a sport jersey. the jersey is slightly too tight for me but i'm also at my highest weight ever (up 20lbs from the summer, due to lifestyle change) so i'll fit into that jersey easily for the spring season. it's my goal.

I just picked up a set of Zipp 303 Firecrest wheels with Chris King hubs for my R3. Still need to get new tires and brake pads before they go on the bike, but I found the wheels (used) at my local shop and I think I got a solid deal on them.

My fall project is a Felt FR1. Have most of the DA stuff on hand. I've ridden the Ergonova bar for years, but it is no longer made. So I just picked up a new 3T Superergo bar and an Apto stem.

Favero Assioma power meter pedals. Do I actually need them? No. Am I fast enough for them to matter? Obviously no? But do I like playing with data? Yes!
